Help with an attack of asthmatic suffocation.
The disease Bronchial asthma is characterized by sudden attacks of suffocation, which not only interfere with normal breathing, but can be fatal if it is impossible to take a drug that relieves an attack. What to do if the asthma balloon is out of stock, lost or simply unavailable at the time of the development of an asthmatic attack. How can you help a person with asthmatic suffocation before the arrival of an ambulance and restore breathing with the help of medical equipment?
Any first aid in the case of a severe asthma attack, accompanied by signs of suffocation (minor asthma attacks in this case are not taken into account) is to create such conditions for a person suffering from a suffocating cough in order to enable him to maintain respiratory activity, albeit at a low level, but giving the opportunity to hold out until the provision of professional medication or hardware assistance.
An attack of bronchial asthma must be able to be distinguished from other attacks accompanied by difficulty breathing, since it is an asthmatic attack that is relieved by antiallergic hormonal drugs, while attacks, suffocation associated with heart or pulmonary insufficiency in other diseases are removed by other methods.
For a strong asthmatic attack, breathing features are characteristic, when a person tries to take a deep long breath, but as if without exhaling, that is, it seems that the person only inhales (lingering with wheezing, whistling).
If there is confidence that a person suffers from bronchial asthma and is not able to relieve a severe asthmatic attack (he can be interviewed in advance, asking questions in such a way that the person can answer with a nod of the head "yes" or "no", since in a serious asthmatic attack It may not be possible to maintain a full conversation with the victim), then the tactics of assistance will be as follows:
- call an ambulance in the first place, since you will need serious resuscitation measures to restore airway patency;
- create an influx of fresh air into the room and free the chest of a person from embarrassing clothing (unbutton the collar as much as possible, unfasten the buttons, unfasten the bra, loosen the knots on the tie or scarf (it is better to remove the tie or scarf), remove the braces and similar items of clothing);
- if necessary, transfer a person to another room, since an attack of asthmatic suffocation can be associated with the atmosphere of the room or objects (substances) in this room;
- it is easiest to restore breathing in case of bronchial spasm (asthma is a bronchial spasm of varying degrees of complexity) in a standing position with an emphasis on the hands or sitting with an emphasis on the hands;
- if there is no inhaler, then it is recommended to give the person a drug in tablets, for example, Theofedrine or Theophylline, but usually an attack can develop just in the absence of all medication opportunities for help, or the person suffocates and cannot swallow;
- if a person is able to swallow in between coughing attacks, you can give him an antispasmodic pill, which will relax smooth muscles and help buy time before the ambulance arrives;
- in the absence of medicines to relieve an attack of asthmatic suffocation, a person needs to be helped to restore the respiratory rhythm, helping by example and at the expense (one or two, inhale-exhale) in order to be able to minimize the air flow into the lungs at least in small portions;
- so that a person does not try to convulsively take in air in a large portion, which is exactly what a person tries to do in moments of suffocation, it is necessary to persuade him to reduce the rate of inhalation and switch from deep breathing to shallow breathing, for example, inhale not with his mouth, but with his nose;
- usually being alone with an asthmatic attack, a person, gasping for breath, involuntarily falls into a state of nervous tension, which aggravates the already difficult breathing, therefore, the task of the victim himself or the people around him is to keep the victim in a state of calm and confidence that breathing will be restored, and he will not die of suffocation;
- to relax the muscles, including the one that spasms the bronchial tree, it is necessary to cover the person's legs with something warm (clothes, blankets, towels), put heat on the limbs (legs and arms) (a heating pad, a bottle of hot water, heated and salt wrapped in a cloth, lean against a hot radiator, rub his hands and feet with your own hands, glue a pepper plaster on the soles of the feet for warming, put mustard plasters on your feet, or pour mustard into socks for the same purpose. This is done so that the circulatory system begins to distribute blood throughout the body (and outflow from the chest area and, accordingly, the bronchial tree) and create blood flow to the limbs and simultaneously extinguish nerve impulses, while relaxing the muscles in the chest area;
- as inhalations in the absence of an asthmatic inhaler, water inhalations with soda help to hold out until the ambulance arrives and to restore breathing to some extent;
- if a person, against the background of a suffocating cough, retains swallowing activity, then you can drink him with well-warmed tea, milk, plain heated water, while the victim's throats should be small and at intervals, and this must be controlled;
- avoid the fuss around a person suffering from an asthmatic attack - you additionally unnerve him, create tension in the nervous system, and this is followed by an attack of fear, which in itself can cause a spasm in the throat, which will further complicate the situation of the suffering person;
- fleeing from an attack of suffocation with asthmatic cough, it is necessary first of all to maintain self-control of the victim himself and endurance to people who help a person to survive an attack of suffocation with asthmatic bronchial spasm.
A person, even in a state of developing a strong asthmatic attack, may retain a small opportunity for breathing, which will allow him to hold out until the receipt of medication and hardware assistance.
