Mobile dialysis.
Renal failure, as well as the complete withdrawal of one or both kidneys from the working state, is a problem for a huge number of people. Despite the fact that the kidneys are one of the most hardy organs - they function until the number of working renal nephrons decreases to a critical level (about 15% per kidney), the number of patients requiring dialysis increases with every year. And there are very few special medical centers for serving people with this type of pathology - many of them are remote and require the patient to move to another city.
Scientists have been working on the problems of equipping dialysis equipment for a long time - they are looking for ways to simplify the design of equipment that distills and purifies blood, so that the majority of the needy population would have the opportunity to install such equipment at home.
Not so long ago, scientists from several countries announced their discoveries in the field of engineering innovations in hardware dialysis - they are testing a mobile kidney - an apparatus whose prototype is hemodialysis bulky equipment. The new developments emphasize the main advantage of the mobile kidney - the ability to carry it with you and control all processes of filtration and excretion of fluid using a smartphone.
Of course, there is still a long way to go before the product reaches the medical market. Today the mobile version of dialysis is being tested. There are nuances that require a more accurate process of implementing the idea, for example, how to safely remove waste after cleaning blood from the patient's catheter, or how to prevent spontaneous bleeding, how to conveniently arrange all the elements of the apparatus, because it is assumed that the patient will wear the equipment (like belt, bag or backpack).
In general mobile dialysis assumes that there will be many more design problems, because the patient will be away from medical institutions, and one will have to rely only on the quality and thoughtfulness of the mobile kidney.
