How to make your home cozier with lighting?
Arranging interior lighting items is an art that requires design skill. But you can independently choose places in the interior of the house for lamps in order to create proper and cozy lighting. This will require not design skills, but adherence to several principles of interior lighting.
Lighting elements must be selected depending on the purpose of the room in the house: bathroom, corridor, hallway, living room, bedroom, library, kitchen and the like. Particular attention should be paid to lighting areas when the room looks like a studio with a mixed interior.
The entire complex of lighting fixtures located in the house and in individual rooms is taken into account. Transitions from one lighting zone to another should not differ sharply in illumination - this is harmful to vision.
It is required to mix types of lamps that differ in illumination intensity: halogen lamps have light one and a half times brighter than incandescent lamps, and incandescent lamps have brighter light than LED elements built into light bulbs or other elements of the lighting fixture.
Lighting varies in softness and harshness. For example, tinted or matte shades reduce the harshness of lighting. If the lampshades have a horn pointing downwards, this creates a bright light. If the horn is directed upward, this creates soft, diffused lighting. Such techniques can be used in chandeliers or sconces for main lighting (upper or wall).
The areas of the dining table in the kitchen or the table in the living room are well illuminated by chandeliers with a lampshade and adjustable lift. A lamp above the table at a distance of 24 inches from its surface can create a cozy and formal atmosphere at the same time.
Wall lights (sconces or LED garlands) can be placed above the sofa or above the bed at a height of 3.5 feet to 4.5 feet. Matte lampshades in such lamps create illumination that is close to natural light and at the same time does not hurt the eyes.
Floor lamps are used in areas for reading or relaxation. For floor lamps, you can adjust the lighting intensity if you choose models with several horns that can be turned on together or separately. If you buy a floor lamp with one arm, then the lighting intensity can be adjusted using different types of lamps (halogen lamps are brighter than incandescent lamps).
Spotlights, if necessary, can provide additional lighting (with the main lighting turned on), or create an intimate atmosphere (with the main lighting turned off). Spotlights are placed so that they are located at a distance of at least 24-31 inches from each other. Such lamps are good for large spaces.
Table lamps are installed depending on the role they will play. If it is necessary to illuminate a place near the computer, then the lamp is installed above the computer to the left and above the monitor. If above the desk, then on the left or right, depending on which hand the person writes with (right or left, respectively). This is done in order to avoid shading the work surface. Table lamps not for a computer are usually mounted or placed at a height of 18 inches above the tabletop.
Additional lighting elements can be turned on depending on the mood or to change the harsh lighting to subdued lighting. To avoid watching TV in a dark room, turn on the backlight of the TV itself (built-in LED backlight), turn on LED garlands or corner floor spotlights.
A computer monitor can be purchased with the same built-in backlight or decorated with an LED garland. Electronic books with a luminous screen, tablets (iPad) and smartphones are not used in complete darkness - for this purpose there is additional side lighting of the interior.
It must be remembered that an unevenly lit room or an insufficiently lit room can ruin the most exceptional vision. And the ability to manipulate lighting fixtures in the interior will allow you to adjust the home environment to your own mood or home situations.
