What can you take pills with?
When, in the instructions for a drug, the manufacturer writes that it is necessary to take the drug with a certain amount of liquid, then the liquid should be understood as water, and not milk, soda, tea, coffee, alcohol, compote or other drink.
Water is the only liquid that is useful to our body, especially when it comes to combining the chemical formula of the substance taken in tablets and the neutral reaction of water to the chemical reagents in the medicine. The only property of water that can affect a drug is a change in the concentration of a solution of a liquid drug (this does not apply to solid tablet and encapsulated drugs). It is for this reason that it is recommended to drink medicines with either a large amount of water or a small amount of water (read the section of the instructions entitled "Method of administration").
What can you take with tablets and how do different drinks affect the drug?
Milk, tea, herbal decoction form a film on the mucous membrane of the digestive tract (milk envelops, teas and herbal infusions have a tanning effect), which interferes with the work of enzymes and disrupts the absorption of the components of the drug.
Carbonated drinks (sweet and mineral), due to the presence of bubbles, create prerequisites in the intestines for increased gas production, which also disrupts the process of assimilation of medicinal components.
Alcohol and coffee are themselves active chemical components that can enhance the effect of a drug (for example, tranquilizers) or counteract the therapeutic effect (inhibit the process).
As for such drinks as jelly, compote, broth and the like, their use together with a drug can be justified only if it is necessary to take the drug during or immediately after a meal.
In the light of the above, we can conclude that the effectiveness of the drug depends on what the drug is taken with. And in order not to disrupt the action of the drug and not to prolong the illness, it is not recommended to drink the medicine with anything other than water.
