How to choose the right hair comb?
Hair care is not only proper washing of hair and head skin, not only regular therapeutic and preventive masks for hair and head skin, but also the right choice of combs for hair care and daily hairstyle.
Combing your hair is a whole ritual that brings health to your hair. It is believed that it is useful to comb your hair not only in the direction of its growth, but also in the opposite direction. This way the scalp is massaged at the hair growth points.
Combing your hair is not recommended if your hair is too thin or fragile. To give the desired volume to your hair, it is recommended to cut your hair or curl it with curlers.
Considering that all manipulations with hair are carried out using combs, the choice of the shape of the comb is of great importance. An incorrectly selected hair comb can cause as many problems to your hair as hair diseases.
It is known that combs differ in shape and purpose. There are combs for regular everyday hair combing, for hair massage and for styling hair. All combs are recommended to be used during the day at different times and for different hair care circumstances.
Conventional flat combs made of metal, plastic, wood, ivory or silicone have both advantages and disadvantages. For example, plastic combs create a static charge on the hair (they electrify the hair), thereby making the hair unmanageable. Such combs can be pre-moistened with water or perfume solutions to relieve static charge. Metal combs are ideal for styling hair, but can damage the head skin if used regularly. The advantage of flat and hard combs is their ease of disinfection, since any of the materials for the manufacture of such combs can easily be kept in disinfection solutions.
Flat combs with soft bristles (artificial or natural) have the disadvantage of combing hair into the depths of the mop poorly, and are also difficult to disinfect, since the soft bristles of the comb can become deformed. But at the same time, these forms of combs also have the advantage of sparing the head skin when combing.
A comb in the form of a brush with different types of bristles (metal, wood, plastic, silicone and natural) have many advantages over other types of combs, as they massage the skin while combing the hair. But such brushes also have disadvantages - they can be difficult to comb very thick hair. And, nevertheless, these brushes are good for combing hair before bed, after undoing your hair, and they can also be easily disinfected.
Comb-Brushing (circular cylindrical brushes) are not suitable for daily combing of hair, as they are designed to style hair into a specific hairstyle. For example, such a comb is used when drying hair with a hairdryer in order to obtain volume of hair in the desired area of the head, create large curls or straighten hair (or individual strands of hair).
The best option for hair care is to use all types of combs according to their purpose:
- wet hair is combed with flat combs with sparse serrations;
- to comb dry hair, use flat combs with frequent serrations;
- brushes are used to massage the head and hair after undoing your hair or before going to bed;
- damaged or too thin hair is combed with combs only made from natural materials;
- simple combing of hair during the day at work or at home is carried out with combs made of natural materials;
- It is better to store a traveling comb in a case so that in a purse or pocket it does not come into contact with other things (objects or clothes), since a comb is always a hygiene item.
Hair care assumes that the attitude towards the hair itself throughout life will be gentle. This word means putting hair in a hairstyle with hairpins or other holding elements that do not cause mechanical or chemical trauma to the hair and do not contribute to excessive tension on the head skin in the area of hair growth.
Elastic bands, barrettes, hairpins, cords or ribbons should not be so tight as to injure the structure of the hair by rubbing it at the points of contact. Wearing a tight ponytail or a tight braided hair for a long time, although it creates convenience in hair care, but at the same time disrupts the condition of the skin in the area of hair growth, excessively stretching it.
Proper hair styling, along with proper combing, adds a dose of health to your overall wellness regimen.
