Brittle and split ends of the hair.
Abnormalities in the hair structure, accompanied by brittle hair (trichoclasia) and split ends of the hair (trichoptilosis), uneven hair thickness, changing along the entire length of the hair shaft (moniletrix) occurs in cases when the mother's pregnancy proceeded in unfavorable conditions: under the influence of stress, infectious diseases , avitaminosis and lack of trace elements, under the influence of therapy with cytostatics, antimicrobial drugs or other potent drugs that affect the development of the fetus.
Acquired hair anomalies develop as a result of the use of drugs or cosmetics that have a destructive effect on the hair structure (overdrying, chemical destruction, rough combing). When drugs and cosmetics are canceled, the hair regains its previous healthy state. The condition of the skin, in particular, the condition of the follicle, which ensures the trophism of the hair, the processes of cell division during hair growth, has a great influence on the quality of the hair. Skin diseases (seborrhea, psoriasis, ichthyosis, neurodermatitis) can affect the function of the follicle.
Nodular trichoclasia - hair dystrophy, as a result of which nodules are located on the hair shaft, in the area of which the hair breaks off in cross section. The edge of the broken hair looks like a whisk.
Idiopathic trichoclasia - characterized by breaking of hair at approximately the same distance from the skin surface (5-10 cm). Areas with breakaway hair alternate with areas of healthy hair. Hair breakage occurs with slight tension or spontaneously.
Trichoptilosis is a longitudinal splitting of the hair shaft to form a brush-like tip of the hair. Trichoptilosis does not affect all hair, but only part of the hair.
Moniletrix is a thickening in the structure of the hair shaft caused by an air bubble located in the thickness of the hair. Hair shafts with moniletrix become of uneven thickness and break off in thinner places.
Treatment of brittle and split ends involves preliminary diagnostics in order to establish the chemical composition of the hair shaft, identify diseases that contribute to the disruption of the follicle. The therapy includes vitamins and trace elements necessary to restore the hair structure, nourishing masks that improve the physical characteristics of the hair (elasticity, softness). Today, it is possible to treat hair shafts with special medical cosmetic products that hide hair defects or to perform selective epilation of affected hair.
