Depilation and epilation - the difference?
To get rid of hair growth on the body (on the face, on the legs, in the groin, on the chest, on the arms), there are two possibilities: depilation and epilation. The difference between depilation and epilation is that the part of the hair that protrudes above the surface of the skin is removed during depilation, and the hair follicle with the growth point remains intact, which allows the hair to grow back further. Depilation is carried out using creams, scrubbing, electric depilators, tweezers, wax, shugaring or shaving.
Depilatory creams applied to the surface of the skin in the area of vegetation destroy the hair structure (break it off) and thereby remove it from the surface (chemical method). Special scrubs (porridge-like coarse substances) are applied to the surface of the scalp, dry, and then, when removed, seem to wash the protruding hair (mechanical method). The same procedure can be done with a pumice stone. When shaving, the blade cuts off the hair at the surface of the skin (mechanical method). Electric depilators or ordinary tweezers pull out the hair, but the hair follicle with the growth point is not destroyed, which allows the hair to resume growth after a few weeks.
Sugaring (sugar paste) and wax are smeared over the surface of the skin burdened with hair, and are removed with a sharp movement - the hair is pulled out without destroying the growth point and with the possibility of recovery after a few weeks.
Contraindications to depilation are very conditional, since, in addition to acutely current infectious processes, there is no danger of this procedure.
Epilation - removal of hair along with the root (destruction of the hair follicle). There are three types of hair removal:
Laser hair removal - is carried out by irradiating the hair and affecting the dye - melanin using a beam of light of high concentration and one length. The pigment absorbs the light flux and destroys the hair follicle dramatically.
Photoepilation - carried out using a high-pulse light lamp. The procedure by the mechanism of destruction is similar to laser hair removal, since the pulsations of the light flux act on the hair pigment and cause the process of destruction of the hair growth point forever. The difference lies only in the simultaneous treatment of a larger surface of the skin.
There are a number of categorical contraindications to photo and laser hair removal due to the effect on the pigment - sunburn on the skin (especially new), the presence of moles, birthmarks, pigmented skin areas, tumors, acute and chronic skin diseases and infectious diseases.
These types of hair removal can cause skin burns, initiate an allergic reaction, lead to loss of pigment on dark skin, provoke the growth of vellus hair.
Electrolysis - removes hair and destroys the hair follicle by a point-like electric shock, by inserting an electrode into the hair follicle. Contraindications are acute infectious skin diseases, tumors or moles in the area of electrode insertion.
All types of hair removal are performed with a specific cooling system for the skin surface (electrolysis requires local anesthesia).
