Health for a lifetime >>>> Pseudofolliculitis is an effective treatment
Pseudofolliculitis is an effective treatment.
Pseudofolliculitis is an inflammatory process that develops in the hair follicle and the surrounding area due to the wrong direction of hair growth. Pseudofolliculitis develops mainly in those areas of the hairline that are regularly shaved or removed in some other way (wax depilation, hair removal with creams). Shaving or hair removal restores hair growth, which can, due to certain circumstances, bend in such a way that its tip digs into the dermis, growing into it. Especially often pseudofolliculitis occurs in the area of wavy hair growth. Unlike folliculitis, pseudofolliculitis does not require the participation of a pathogenic microorganism in the inflammatory process, but this does not mean that the infection cannot join the already existing inflammatory process. For this reason, inflammation in the area of abnormally growing hair causes suppuration, often leading to micro-abscesses.
How is pseudofolliculitis treated?
The most effective and affordable treatment for pseudofolliculitis is considered abstinence from shaving or other hair removal. But this method of treatment does not always suit the person suffering from pseudofolliculitis.
To relieve inflammation and stop purulent processes, ointments or creams with antibiotics are used topically, but resuming shaving starts the inflammatory process over again.
Electrolysis or laser hair removal are considered effective methods of treating pseudofolliculitis, in which the hair follicle is destroyed and hair growth stops forever. But electrolysis is not carried out on the skin in the face, armpit, bikini area (too painful). Laser hair removal also has a number of disadvantages: it is ineffective for unpigmented hair (light), sometimes it can lead to scar formation at the site of the removed hair follicle, and cause hyperpigmentation of the hair.
Good results are obtained by shaving in the direction of hair growth, setting the electric shaver to cut the hair not tightly to the skin, but at a distance of approximately 0.1 - 0.3 mm, which will allow the top of the cut hair to be above the skin.
A prerequisite for the treatment of pseudofolliculitis is thorough hygiene and cosmetic skin care in the areas where the hair is shaved. Softening the skin helps the hair to find an accessible place in the dermis for painless germination. For these purposes, skin baths or warm compresses are regularly made, followed by lubrication with nourishing, moisturizing and softening creams. Drying of the skin, roughness, increased keratinization should not be allowed. Before shaving, the skin is disinfected with an antiseptic lotion to fix the pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic microflora.
It is worth paying attention to the fact that with a scattering of pustules that has already formed as a result of pseudofolliculitis, shaving and hair removal cannot be continued, this can lead to contamination of the entire shaving (hair removal) area with pathogenic microorganisms, for the reproduction of which favorable conditions will be created.
