How to use self-tanner?
Scientists have long been thinking about how to “deceive the sun” and turn the flesh color of a person’s skin into bronze without the participation of ultraviolet radiation (without sunbathing in the open sun or in a solarium). The result of the experiments was self-tanning - a chemical coloring pigment that penetrates the outer layer of the epidermis and does not change the biostructure of the deep layers of the dermis.
Self-tanning was invented in the last century, but interest in it has not faded over the years, but, on the contrary, has increased, despite the availability of tanning naturally or in solariums. This is due to the fact that the desire to sunbathe under the sun's rays has turned into a hobby dangerous to human health, since sunlight becomes more and more aggressive over the years due to changes occurring in the cosmic life cycle of the Sun, which warms our planet.
Ultraviolet radiation from a solarium is no less dangerous than sunlight for people with snow-white skin and moles, since it can provoke the development of a deadly phenomenon in the skin called Melanoma, as well as lead to the degeneration of a healthy skin cell into a cancer cell or the transformation of harmless moles into malignant formations.
The word “self-tanning” is familiar to everyone, but not everyone knows how to use it. The procedure for applying self-tanning can be carried out both in a beauty salon and at home. But to apply self-tanning to your skin yourself, you must follow several principles:
- Despite the desire to turn light skin into dark skin and make your dreams come true in just a couple of hours, when choosing a self-tanner you should moderate your desires and choose the self-tanner color only one shade darker than your own skin tone, testing it in advance on the lightest area of your own skin. This choice is due to the fact that self-tanning is not applied to the skin around the eyes, which means that these areas, if the contrast of the skin color and the color of the self-tanning is too strong, will reveal the origin of the tan.
- It is worth paying attention to the fact that natural focal changes in skin color (for example, a birthmark, an old burn site, a keloid scar, focal changes in the skin due to a skin disease and similar darker or pinkish spots on the skin of various origins) will become areas of darker color self-tanning shade. For this reason, it is worth avoiding these areas when applying self-tanner (covering them when applying self-tanning spray or cream) or selecting the self-tanner color based on such areas.
- Self-tanning was invented as a chemically inert product that has only a coloring effect on the surface layer of the skin. However, in case of recurrence of skin diseases in areas of their regular manifestation, as well as in case of acute inflammation of the skin, it is not customary to apply any means other than therapeutic ones to these areas. Self-tanning is no exception to the rule, since it is not a medicinal product.
- Before applying a layer of self-tanning, it is necessary to carry out light peeling the entire skin of the body so that the self-tanning pigment can quickly be absorbed into the skin without the obstruction of the appearance of naturally flaky skin flakes. A moisturizing and nourishing cream is applied, which should be completely absorbed into the skin after peeling. And only after two hours (or the next day) you can apply self-tanning to your skin without worrying about the unevenness of its color.
- Self-tanning is applied in layers in several stages. This allows you to increase the intensity of the self-tanning tone gradually and smoothly move from areas of the skin not touched by self-tanning to all other surfaces of the skin that need to be darkened.
- After applying the next portion of self-tanner, you need to wait about five hours and only then put on clothes. But you should not wear tight-fitting clothes that hug your body, as even absorbed self-tanning pigment can leave stains. To make sure the color is fast, you can rub the skin with a cloth.
- To ensure that nothing artificially reveals the origin of the tan, shade the sharp boundaries between the applied self-tanner and untouched skin (for example, where the wrist meets the palm).
- In areas where the body curves (elbow, knee, armpit and groin area, bikini area), in places where the neck is tilted and where it reaches the chin, you can apply self-tanner one or two layers less, since the self-tanner will darken in these places.
- More permanent self-tanning products are those that are applied using an aerosol. But in the summer, when you can wear a minimum of clothing and not be afraid of staining the fabric of your clothes, creams, gels and cosmetic milk with a tanning effect are suitable.
- To remove the self-tanning layer, you need to take a hot bath (shower) to steam the skin, and rub its surface with peeling products or a hard washcloth in several approaches. Self-tanner is washed off as it is applied - layer by layer.
It should be remembered that self-tanning products with an expired expiration date can lead to an unexpected and undesirable effect: an uneven tan color that does not correspond to the description of the tan color, and skin irritation.
