Laser vision correction - advantages and disadvantages.
The currently very common procedure for restoring vision with a laser has many questions, although it is very popular due to its minimally invasive intervention in the eye tissue, ease of implementation and relatively small side effects.
The essence of the operation is to lift the upper layer of the cornea, simulate the exposed surface like an eye lens, install the raised layer in place and heal naturally within a few days. The operation is indicated for people with visual abnormalities (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism).
Like any surgical intervention, laser vision correction has advantages and disadvantages.
Despite the fact that the operation itself takes little time, the postoperative period is much longer and requires compliance with certain rules:
- exclude visits to pools and other opportunities for swimming in water bodies,
- wearing glasses with a UV filter is indicated for several months,
- do not take hormonal drugs (including contraceptives) for six months,
- the operation is carried out no earlier than the onset of the 18th birthday, since it is by this moment that the eyeball is fully formed.
Laser vision correction is appropriate only in cases where the visual impairment is not a consequence of the current disease or aging processes, since the disease that causes such visual impairment will continue to progress and reduce the result of the operation to zero. The operation is mostly indicated at a relatively young age (up to 40-45 years old, when irreversible aging processes of the body begin).
The operation is mainly demanded by people of professions in which it is not possible to wear glasses (for example, the military, the police, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, firefighters).
