Why does the temperature rise?
A stable temperature regime in the body is necessary to maintain metabolic processes and chemical reactions that provide them. In addition, a certain level of temperature is necessary for heating internal organs as a protective reaction against unstable temperatures in the external environment.
On the other hand, a temperature higher than usual is a mode of protection of the body against pathogenic microorganisms that are not adapted to living conditions at a certain level of heat.
How is the temperature regime carried out? The immune system and the hypothalamus, the center of thermoregulation, are involved in temperature regulation. The immune system reacts to pyrogens - substances that indicate that there are antigens in the body and must be fought. When a pathogen enters the body, it is attacked by leukocytes, which are the first defense barrier, absorbing and dissolving pathogenic organisms, leukocytes secrete pyrogens - interleukins, which signal the immune system about the presence of antigens. In turn, the immune system starts chemical reactions that activate the hypothalamus, which (again, by chemical reactions) causes a spasm of peripheral vessels and drives blood to the internal organs for heating. At the same time, the hypothalamus causes muscle tremors, which in turn initiates an energetic spurt, forcing the body to produce heat.
The increased body temperature prevents pathogens from colonizing the body. It is for this reason that it makes no sense to lower the temperature - in the absence of antimicrobial drugs, it is a powerful protector of the body.
An elevated temperature is always a signal that pathological processes are developing in the body. Sometimes the temperature can be the body's response to stress or overwork.
Why does the temperature not always rise above 37 degrees? Prolonged low-grade fever indicates the presence of dangerous factors in the body, but the inability of the immune system to give an intense temperature response to irritation. This can occur when re-infection with the same pathogens in the body or in the case of weak responses of weakened immunity.
