When we start a pet as entertainment, the last thing we think about is that it is a full-fledged living creature that has the right to life and reproduce. But what to do with a brood of cubs if your pet is of no value as a thoroughbred breeder.

The question arises about sterilization and neutering a cat or dog. What is the difference between the two treatments that render the animal infertile? Sterilization is the ligation of the spermatic cord or fallopian tubes, and castration is the removal of the entire genital organs of animals of both sexes. Sterilization will prevent the process of conception itself, but the behavior of animals during the period of sexual anxiety will not change, they will also cry invitingly, mark territory, and be interested in individuals of the opposite sex.

In the case of castration, animals are deprived not only of the reproductive organs, but also of the organs responsible for the hormonal mood. That is, after the operation, the animal will forget why it needs individuals of the opposite sex and will peacefully coexist with them without signs of harassment, since it is the hormonal background that makes the animals behave in a certain way during the period of sexual preoccupation.

As for the humanity of these procedures, this issue is resolved in this way: during sterilization, the animal will be disturbed by hormonal attacks, so it is better to castrate. In cats and males, the healing process after castration is faster than in cats and bitches, because the female sex undergoes abdominal surgery, and the rehabilitation period will take longer. In any case, the surgery is performed under anesthesia, and the animal will feel pain only after the anesthetic stops acting in the postoperative period. High-quality care and relief of the pet's suffering are important here, as in humans in the postoperative period: dressings, medications for accelerated healing, good nutrition.
