Otolaryngology >>>> Adenoids are polyps in the nose
Adenoids are polyps in the nose.
Pathological proliferation of tissues of the nasopharyngeal tonsil, which increases its size, is called adenoids (in everyday life, nasal polyps).
The nasopharyngeal tonsil is an organ of the immune system that produces lymphocytes and prevents infections of the nasopharynx.
Adenoids, reaching a certain size, become an obstacle to nasal breathing, which in turn leads to structural disturbances in the nasopharynx region, forms the habit of closing the jaw incorrectly, forming malocclusion, creates the preconditions for chronic respiratory infections of the throat, trachea, bronchi, and causes snoring in sleep.
The reasons for the proliferation of adenoids are sometimes inherent in the genetics of the body (disturbances in the functioning of the endocrine and lymphatic systems), chronic inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx and pharynx also provoke hyperplasia of the tissues of the nasopharyngeal tonsil.
Signs of nasal polyps:
- The nose seems to be stuffed up all the time,
- Runny nose with serous contents,
- Frequent tickling and coughing due to mouth breathing.
Adenoids are usually diagnosed in childhood, paying attention to the child's habit of breathing through the mouth, sleeping with the mouth open, dumb or dull, and even hard of hearing.
The consequences of adenoids affect the quality of breathing - they create insufficient oxygen enrichment of the brain, can cause mental retardation, lethargy, and drowsiness.
Hardware examination using an endoscope allows you to consider the presence of adenoids, their size and the degree of obstruction to nasal breathing.
Treatment of adenoids is carried out using endoscopic excision of the overgrown tissue and the entire tonsil. There is also a cryodestruction technique that allows you to cut off hypertrophied tissue.
There is a possibility of resumption of the processes of proliferation and growth of tissues on a new one.
