Brucellosis - signs and treatment.
Brucellosis is an infectious disease, the danger of infection with which comes from meat and dairy breeds of animals. The route of transmission of the pathogen of brucellosis in the overwhelming majority of cases is through the digestive tract. The bacterium Brucella enters the human body as part of meat or dairy products that have not undergone heat treatment. But there have been cases of brucellosis bacteria entering the human body both through the respiratory tract and through injuries of the skin.
The seeding of the body occurs by spreading the bacteria of brucellosis by lymphogenous and hematogenous routes.
The incubation period of the brucellosis disease is extended for one to two weeks, which misleads a person who has suffered from infection with this infection, since a significant period of time passes from the moment of consumption of products infected with brucellosis until the appearance of characteristic signs of infection in the body.
Typical signs of brucellosis:
- joint pain of varying degrees of intensity, up to difficult to bear,
- fluctuations in body temperature up to 38 degrees with periods of falling,
- increased sweating and general weakness,
- of the possible, but optional signs of the disease, brucellosis may include headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, loss of appetite.
Brucellosis is characterized by an acute and chronic course. Sometimes the chronization of the process occurs bypassing the acute form of the course of the disease. Immunity to a certain extent copes with the attack of the pathogen and suppresses the spread of infection for an indefinite period of time. But under favorable circumstances for the beginning of the vegetative activity of the brucellosis bacteria, the next wave of infection of the organism begins.
The danger of brucellosis disease lies in the damage to the nervous system and the development of neurological diseases in the area of any of the organ systems. Diagnosis of brucellosis disease is carried out on the basis of bacterial culture and detection of Brucella strains.
The treatment of brucellosis is based on antibiotic therapy with drugs to which the bacteria are most sensitive (fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines).
