Abdominoplasty - what is it?
The abdominal region of the body is a problem for people of both sexes. At a young age, the muscle corset naturally holds the abdominal wall, preventing it from stretching. But over time, the muscles weaken, and if there is no habit of pumping up the abdominal muscles, the abdominal wall begins to protrude outward. Childbirth, excess fat in the peritoneal region, abdominal hernias, divergence of the rectus abdominis muscles, improper posture and the habit of keeping the abdomen forward lead to the same effect.
How to lift the abdomen with surgery? Special exercises for the abdominal muscles and grueling workouts in this area can solve the problem of a sagging abdomen, but not in cases where the skin is stretched and does not return to its original position. The elasticity of the muscles cannot bring the belly back into a fold - it is necessary to remove excess skin.
In all cases, when it is not possible to remove the bulging abdomen on their own, they turn to plastic surgery - abdominoplasty.
Abdominoplasty will help tighten the abdomen, but it can solve problems not only with a sagging belly, but also get rid of skin defects associated with the presence of scars (from appendicitis, from cesarean section, from surgical hernia scars, and the like), change the shape and location navel. With abdominoplasty, the skin is pulled down, the excess is cut off, the seam goes into the bikini area and is covered with underwear, which allows the abdominal area to be unhindered in the future.
Abdominoplasty is considered one of the most difficult plastic surgeries and requires good health indicators for smooth performance.
Contraindications to abdominoplasty:
- poor blood clotting,
- tendency to thrombosis,
- diabetes mellitus and other endocrine disorders,
- planning pregnancy,
- obesity,
- decompensated forms of diseases.
You should know that abdominoplasty can be performed by the endoscopic method, but in this case, the main condition for the operation is the absence of sagging skin in the abdominal region, since endoscopic abdominoplasty solves the problems of removing fat deposits in the peritoneal region, tightening the muscle corset of the abdominal region, but not cutting off excess stretched skin.
Contraindications to endoscopic abdominoplasty:
- excess skin in the peritoneal area,
- significant fat deposits in the abdomen,
- operating scars over the navel.
Compared to other types of abdominoplasty, endoscopic abdominoplasty is considered a minimally invasive surgical procedure with a shorter recovery time (compared to abdominal surgery). Abdominoplasty with significant tissue dissection (transverse incision in the lower abdomen) requires a long period of rehabilitation - a month, subject to strict adherence to all the doctor's recommendations (wearing uncomfortable compression underwear, no tension and physical exertion on the peritoneal area).
The lasting effect after abdominoplasty surgery depends on the patient's lifestyle, which he will have to change. Due to the fact that the muscles of the abdominal region and tissues of the skin tend to continue to stretch, in order to maintain the result of the operation, it is necessary to follow a diet and not gain excess weight. Along with this, exercises to strengthen the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall (pumping the press) will have to enter the patient's everyday life. Neglecting diet and exercise, the patient will not be able to maintain the desired result of abdominoplasty for a long time and will return to its previous appearance.
