The ring is stuck on the finger - first aid.
There are many situations in life in which the swelling of the tissues of the hands increases, if not suddenly, then it is not obvious, and takes the owner of the ring by surprise when it is no longer possible to remove the ring from the finger. Such cases are typical for conditions of pregnancy with edema, with kidney problems, with weight gain, and even with physical exertion, when the muscles of the fingers are involved in training and gain volume. The usual household blow to the finger (phalanx joint) or an accidental injury when the hand is clamped in the doorway will turn into a decent size swelling in a few hours. Without having time to think about the consequences, you can end up with a ring on your hand, which can pinch the tissues and create prerequisites for disrupting blood flow in the tissues of the ringed finger.
What to do to get rid of such a traumatic ring.
The easiest and at the same time unpleasant method is to cut the ring. But more often than not, the ring is a memento or an inherited jewel, and is so dear to the owner that the very thought of sawing the ring becomes painful.
There are several proven methods for removing the ring from a swollen toe, you just need to understand the reason for the increase in the thickness of the finger in order to select the appropriate method for removing the finger from the ring (as well as a nut or other similar object).
If the ring is not removed from the finger due to banal tissue edema as a result of increased stress on the hands or diseases and conditions associated with edema, the simplest solution is to remove the swelling with a saline solution with a very high salt content (hold the problem finger for a while (for example, 30 min - 60 min) until the salt begins to absorb excess fluid from the tissues.
If the finger is bruised, and an enlarged finger is the result of injury and tissue inflammation, then anti-inflammatory and anti-edema ointments will help, which after 2-7 days of regular smearing will remove the swelling and soothe the inflammatory process, and the size of the finger will return to its original size.
A more difficult case is when the ring is stuck on the finger as a result of gradual weight gain, and the owner of the ring did not bother to remove it in advance, or the injury to the finger is such that the swelling, growing, causes a delay in blood circulation in the area of the ring on the finger and even greater edema. Here, measures are needed to remove the ring of a more urgent sense. In this case, a method based on forced tight tightening of edematous (swollen) tissues is suitable. This can be done using a thin fishing line, silk or synthetic thread with a gloss, it is important that the thread (fishing line) is strong, thin and smooth, then the ring will slide along it, or rather along the winding with fishing line or thread. The procedure may not be completely painless, as the tissues of the finger will be compressed forcibly.
The ring is removed from the finger as follows:
- Move the ring away from the joint of the phalanx (if it does not pass part of the phalanx) or move it to the place of the phalanx, which the ring still passes unhindered.
- Using a needle with a fishing line or thread, push the fishing line (thread) under the ring, leaving 2-4 inches for gripping from the side of the base of the finger, and the rest of the length of the fishing line (thread) - about a meter - start winding tightly and tightly around the finger, laying each turn side by side with the previous one and not paying attention to the numbness of the finger, because you have to squeeze the tissues like a tourniquet, which will undoubtedly lead to a stop of blood circulation (the finger will begin to turn blue closer to the nail), and this is not fatal. Without fuss and carefully wind the fishing line (thread) along the entire length of the finger towards the nail.
- Take the fishing line (thread) by the tip, which was left free, and pull, trying to unwind the thread by pulling - the ring will begin to move along the wound part of the finger under the action of the unwinding thread and will slide from a difficult place.
If there is no suitable thread or fishing line at hand, a wide piece of scotch tape is suitable, with which it is tight (but without winding, so as not to create an additional layer) to wrap the swollen finger, trying to tighten its thickness as much as possible, and then with unscrewing movements move the ring along the surface of the tape, which can be additionally lubricated with cream or ointment to reduce friction.
This is practically the right way to remove the ring from the finger without cutting the ring, since the tissues, no matter how thick they are, are able to compress under the action of the tightening materials exactly to the bone, which is required to remove the ring.
