How to get rid of dandruff effectively?
Why does dandruff appear?
Increased keratinization of the scalp leads to the formation of dandruff - the detachment of a large number of skin scales - dead cells of the epidermis. There can be several reasons for increased keratinization of the scalp: seborrhea, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, violation of the skin microflora.
One of the culprits for the appearance of dandruff is considered to be a fungus of the type Pityrosporum ovale (lives mainly on the scalp) or Pityrosporum orbiculare (on the skin of the trunk). This fungus is a representative of the natural microflora of the skin. The favorite habitat of the fungus is the areas around the sebaceous glands, the secret of which the fungus uses for growth and reproduction. On the scalp of the vast majority of people in a normal state, the size of the colony of the fungus Pityrosporum does not exceed 30-40%. But with endocrine, neurogenic, immune disorders, when the work of the sebaceous glands increases, the chemical composition of the secretion changes, the fungus gets the opportunity to increase colonies, which leads to skin peeling.
Very often, the impetus for the widespread reproduction of the fungus is nervous stress, an increased content of androgens that control the work of the sebaceous glands, a violation of the acidity level of the skin, diseases of the nervous system, hormonal disruptions.
Washing the head with shampoos, which include substances that change the pH of the skin, a diet high in fats and carbohydrates, provoking an increased secretion of the sebaceous glands, chronic stress, hormonal changes at any time can lead to the activation of the vital activity of the fungus.
How to get rid of dandruff?
In order for the treatment of dandruff to become effective, laboratory studies of scrapings from the surface of the scalp are carried out. If the results are positive for the presence of the Pityrosporum fungus, antifungal therapy is prescribed. It will not be possible to get rid of the fungus at all, because it is a natural representative of the skin microbiocenosis, but it is quite possible to reduce its active reproduction. For these purposes, shampoos (Nizoral, Keto-plus) are used, which include antifungal drugs, as well as substances that inhibit the secretion of the sebaceous glands; antifungal creams, ointments or solutions. In difficult cases, antimycotics (Ketoconazole, Zinc-pyrithione) are used systemically, and not only locally.
