How to check bronchi?
Frequent cases of diseases such as bronchitis and / or tracheobronchitis suggest not only reduced immunity, but also the presence of chronic inflammatory processes in the mucous membrane lining the trachea and bronchi. How to check bronchi?
To conduct a study of the bronchi and trachea, an endoscope is used, which allows not only a visual examination of the state of the mucous membrane of these organs, but also makes it possible to take biomaterial for laboratory microscopic examination for the presence of pathogenic microorganisms and neoplasms.
The procedure for examining the bronchi and trachea using an endoscope is called "bronchoscopy".
Bronchoscopic examination is performed in the presence of local anesthesia or general anesthesia. An instrument (broncho-fibroscope) is inserted into the trachea and bronchi through the mouth or nose.
Since the introduction of a bronchoscope is fraught with certain difficulties, when the patency of the trachea and bronchi is necessary, the absence of a cough reflex, there are a number of contraindications for bronchoscopy:
- Severe respiratory failure,
- Epilepsy,
- Blood clotting disorders or bleeding at the time of examination,
- Severe asthma,
- Coronary artery disease,
- Allergy to pain relievers.
Bronchoscopy, in addition to diagnosing the condition of the trachea and bronchi, can:
- serve as a means for the introduction of drugs directly into the bronchi,
- drain the bronchial tree,
- makes it possible to stop bleeding in a hard-to-reach place of the upper and lower respiratory tract,
- facilitate the installation of dilators to change the lumen of the trachea and bronchi,
- help remove foreign bodies from the trachea or bronchi.
