How to take care of dentures?
Dentures (as well as orthodontic appliances), like natural teeth, are exposed to the same chemical processes in the oral cavity. They are washed by saliva, which has a non-neutral pH reaction, and food residues are retained on the prostheses. All this contributes to the deposits of tartar not only on living teeth, but also on artificial ones, contributes to the acquisition of a sloppy appearance of the prosthesis. Dentures are often made of polymer materials (plastics), which tend to retain food particles on their surface, since they are not endowed with the degree of smoothness that tooth enamel has.
Taking into account the peculiarities of the manufacture of dentures, the conditions of their use, the natural effects on dentures in the oral cavity, it is necessary to learn how to take care of dentures so that they serve as long as possible and do not cause aesthetic hassle.
How to take care of dentures? Since dentures (as well as orthodontic appliances) are not removable, such dentures are cared for directly in the oral cavity. It is very convenient to handle fixed dentures with a toothbrush with different curves and rinse with an irrigator. It is necessary to use several types of brushes (hard - for all parts of the prostheses, except for the plastic facet part - the front facing and soft - for the front plastic facets). Fixed dentures are cleaned every time after meals!
Braces (or other orthodontic structures) require particularly careful cleaning, as they contain many small auxiliary parts that tend to trap food debris. Before cleaning the orthodontic structures, the removable elements of these structures are removed from the oral cavity, and then hard-to-reach places are cleaned with various brush movements (circular, up-down, lateral). There are special brushes and bundled brushes for cleaning non-removable structures, which can be purchased at dental stores.
Removable dentures are removed from the oral cavity after each meal and cleaned under running water from food debris with a stiff toothbrush. These dentures can be deodorized with special mouth rinses.
To clean and care for removable and fixed dentures, toothpastes without bleaching agents are used.
