Toxic hepatitis.
The liver is an organ whose functional duties include neutralizing and cleansing the body of toxins. But in cases where the doses of toxic substances entering the liver exceed its functional capabilities, the liver itself is under the attack of toxic substances. What happens with toxic liver poisoning: first of all, liver cells - hepatocytes, which begin to die off gradually, and when the amount of damaged tissue in the liver exceeds the level of recovery possibility, the liver dies.
The toxic effects on the liver are very diverse:
- drug damage to the liver, when side effects from drugs have a destructive effect on hepatocytes,
- toxic damage by harmful substances in the process of being in hazardous production,
- food poisoning with foods high in toxins,
- alcoholic and narcotic liver poisoning,
- poisoning with poisonous plants (mushrooms, berries, herbs, and the like).
Signs of toxic hepatitis:
- pain in the right hypochondrium, depending on the rate of development of the process, becomes paroxysmal or has the character of an acute pain syndrome;
- with a protracted course of toxic hepatitis, the skin may become yellow;
- digestive disorders (nausea and vomiting) and stool disorders (diarrhea) are observed;
- general malaise is observed - headache, excessive sweating, allergic skin rashes, weakness.
Toxic liver damage (toxic hepatitis) can develop acutely or chronically. Chronic toxic hepatitis is a consequence of regular exposure to toxic substances on the body (for example, drugs with strong side effects, harmful working conditions, harmful living environment). Toxins enter the bloodstream and, accordingly, into the liver, regularly in small doses, accumulate and gradually have a destructive effect.
Treatment of toxic hepatitis is primarily based on the identification and elimination of the factor that is the source of toxins. They carry out detoxification measures to cleanse the body as a whole from toxins - they take substances that are antidotes to toxic substances. Then they take drugs aimed at restoring liver cells - hepatoprotectors.
Toxic hepatitis, unlike viral hepatitis, is not a contagious disease, although it has symptoms similar to those of viral hepatitis.
