Prostate cancer - signs and treatment options.
Prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma of the prostate gland) is an oncological disease, with statistics of occurrence in the period after the age of sixty men. At a younger age, prostate cancer is rarely diagnosed.
The reasons for the development of prostate cancer are not fully understood, but the most probable factors for the development of this type of oncology are the aging processes of the body, diet with an increased amount of fat, chronic inflammation of the prostate, and heredity.
Signs of prostate cancer:
- prostate cancer has a latent course (asymptomatic) in the early stages of its development,
- vivid symptoms of prostate cancer begin to appear at 3-4 stages of its development,
- Difficulty urinating with frequent urge and feeling of an empty bladder may indicate a tumor in the prostate area,
- the trickle of urine becomes thin, intermittent,
- there is a burning sensation and pain at the beginning of urination or when the process continues,
- pain can be given to the groin area, into the rectum, blood in the urine can be observed,
- possible hemospermia (blood in semen),
- metastasis of prostate cancer to nearby bones and organs can give painful sensations in the lower part of the skeleton, ribs, in the abdominal region, etc.
- in the later stages of development, edema of the lower extremities, weight loss are observed.
Diagnosis of prostate cancer is carried out on the basis of palpation in the area of the rectal wall, ultrasound of the pelvic organs, MRI, biopsy of prostate tissue. The results of the diagnostic examination are influenced by indicators of blood composition, or rather quantitative indicators of PSA (prostate specific antigen), which is secreted by the prostate.
Treatment of prostate cancer is carried out with the help of partial or total prostate resection, with the help of chemotherapy and radiation therapy (interstitial or remotely). Intra-tissue therapy (brachyotherapy) is preferable, since it allows selectively irradiating tumor cells with the help of a radioimplant introduced into the rectum without touching healthy tissues.
Predictions of recovery and survival in prostate cancer depend on the stage of the process, the effectiveness of the use of funds and are 5-10 years of life.
