Cats are naturally clean creatures, they do not have to be bathed unless certain situations require it. Even outside the living quarters and fulfilling their natural needs, cats try to rake up feces. But in conditions where the cat lives without going out (for example, in high-rise buildings), she needs a place for the toilet. Usually, the owner will arrange a litter box in the bathroom or other utility rooms. The main thing is that the litter box does not become a hotbed of infection for all residents.

For these purposes, use special pallets, trays filled with sand, paper bedding or special granules. You cannot use boxes made of cardboard or other wetting materials instead of plastic products, due to the fact that the cat litter must be washed well.

At the initial stages of living in enclosed spaces, the cat must be accustomed to going to the toilet. Gradually, she will develop an instinct to go to send her needs to the chosen place. If the animal is an adult and already had an owner, it is necessary to clarify with him what the toilet was earlier in this cat, and try to repeat the environment already familiar to her. If the kitten is small or an adult animal lived in the wild, then you will have to train it by methodically calling the cat to the place where the litter box is located (do not carry it on your hands, because the cat must remember the way to the toilet) and put it in the tray, after putting the smelling her urine on a piece of rag or paper to reinforce the cat's association with the smell. Small kittens are stimulated to feces by irritating the anal area with a cotton swab (imitate a cat - a mother, which in this way makes kittens urinate). If a small kitten grows up with its mother - a cat, then she will teach him to go to the toilet in the same place she goes to herself, but it is worth putting two trays (for both). You can't teach a cat to go to the toilet or sink on purpose, it depends on whether the animal wants to imitate the habits of the owner.

Sometimes the animal can behave sloppy, confuse places for the toilet. You should not punish the cat in such cases, but it is necessary to find out the reason for this behavior: gastrointestinal diseases (obstruction), diseases of the genitourinary system, stress, a new environment. If stress is to blame for everything (the first street walk, vaccination, an unknown visitor) or a new environment, the animal will eventually return to normal and begin to follow the rules, if the disease is to blame, it must be treated.

Choosing a bed for a cat can be a problem if the animal is accustomed to sleeping next to a person from birth. If you do not like it when you have a shaggy and heavy "carcass" on your chest, head, neck during sleep, try to accustom the animal to a basket or a house as a kitten.

In addition to the toilet and sleeping place, the cat should have a secluded safe corner where she can hide during periods of fear attacks or bad moods. You should not deprive her of such a secluded corner - these instincts force the animal to seek a spare refuge from being constantly in sight of the owner or incoming strangers.
