Vector-borne (transmitted) infections.
Vector-borne infections or transmitted infections are viral, bacterial, parasitic infections, the routes of transmission of which to humans suggest the presence of a carrier of the causative agent of the infection, in the role of which are arthropods (insects, ticks) and gastropods. Transmitted infections can be transmitted in several ways:
- carrier - human,
- carrier - animal - carrier - man.
The carriers are:
- Mosquitoes (Yellow fever, Dengue fever, Malaria, Lymphatic filariasis, Chikungunya, Karelian fever),
- Bedbugs (Chagas disease),
- Fleas (Rishta's disease, Typhus),
- Flies (Sleeping sickness),
- Midges (Onchocerciasis),
- Ticks (Congo - Crimean hemorrhagic fever, Vesicular rickettsiosis, Q fever, Borreliosis, Encephalitis),
- Mosquitoes (Leishmaniasis, Pappatachi fever),
- Gastropods (Schistosomiasis).
Prevention of transmitted infections :
- Vaccination and taking prophylactic drugs (chemoprophylaxis) before leaving for an area endemic to this disease;
- The use of repellents, protective nets for doorways and windows, bed curtains;
- The choice of clothing that prevents insects from accessing the body (dense fabric and fasteners are of particular importance - dense ones are preferable: zippers or Velcro);
- Limit walks in the evening and at night in places where insects are spread, as well as walks near bodies of water (rivers, lakes, ponds, vast reservoirs of stagnant water);
- To take into account the messages of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service in seasons with a high level of spread of insect vectors;
- Use of drinking water only from sources approved by the sanitary service.
Vector-borne infections are dangerous in that the symptoms of the development of diseases obtained by the transmissible way often resemble the symptoms of diseases that are less terrible in their outcome, occurring with high fever, intestinal upset, rashes, and specific medical care not provided in a timely manner can lead to the death of the body.
