Why are the limbs freezing?
Coldness of the extremities (hands, feet), as a rule, is not a cause for concern for most people, but is regarded by them as a special property of the body. But this is not always true, since freezing limbs are a sign of spasm of peripheral blood vessels, which can be a temporary phenomenon or the result of vascular disorders. In childhood, vascular spasm in the extremities (cold hands and / or legs) may indicate the not yet perfect work of the neurohumoral system, which controls the contraction of the vascular wall. At a young age, the causes of vascular spasm of the extremities can already speak of vegetative-vascular disorders.
Many diseases have cold extremities as one of the early symptoms of their development:
- diabetes,
- angiopathy,
- instability of blood pressure,
- venous congestion,
- thrombosis of peripheral vessels of the extremities,
- vascular anomalies of the peripheral blood supply system,
- disorders of the innervation of the extremities.
All this must be taken into account for a correct understanding of the importance of such a symptom as cold feet or hands.
If the examination did not reveal any specific diseases corresponding to this symptom, and no treatment was prescribed, then there are several methods for improving blood circulation in the extremities that will help in the future to avoid serious disorders of the peripheral circulatory system.
- Contrasting baths (alternating hot and cold water) will help the vessels of the legs and arms to train to constrict and expand.
- Massage and rubbing of the limbs improves the trophism of tissues in the legs and arms, promoting active blood flow.
- Ointments (containing mustard, pepper or snake venom), alcohol compresses, warming patches, which provide local irritation to the skin of the limbs, help restore blood flow in peripheral vessels.
What can be the result of the lack of peripheral blood supply to the extremities?
In the cold period, impaired blood circulation in the legs and arms will contribute to their excessive cooling (in extreme cases, frostbite).
Poor blood circulation in the periphery can cause thrombosis and blockage of the vascular lines, which has every chance of ending with the development of tissue necrosis and gangrene (and as a result - amputation).
