Rest turned into disease >>>> Motion sickness is not a disease
Motion sickness is not a disease.
The word "motion sickness" most accurately defines the source of poor health when a person moves on airplanes, cars, ships. It is the rocking of the human body up and down, back and forth that causes very unpleasant painful symptoms, which, depending on the mode of transport causing them, are called airborne or seasickness. In medical practice, these painful sensations have a name - kinetosis (motion sickness).
The reason for the development of motion sickness symptoms is simple and has nothing to do with the pathology of the body, in other words, it is not a disease. It's all the fault of the human vestibular apparatus. Or rather, a vestibular analyzer, who, trying to do his job correctly, sends the nervous system contradictory signals about the movement of the human body, which at the time of the trip does not actually move anywhere (meaning its movement relative to the vehicle in which the person is - standing, sitting or lying). A person is motionless relative to transport, and his eyes, which are involved in transmitting a signal to the analyzer, indicate the opposite, since they notice the rapid movement of objects outside the transport. The rapid movement of the eye muscle, which translates a person's gaze from object to object, sends a signal to the vestibular analyzer, which responds accordingly, sending other signals to different body systems. These signals cause painful symptoms: dizziness, nausea, urge to vomit, weakness, headache.
Not all people and not equally experience these painful manifestations, but there are few people who are absolutely not subject to kinetosis - about 8%.
In order not to experience unpleasant symptoms, the vestibular apparatus must be regularly trained. Jumping on a trampoline and various types of swings will help train the body not to pay attention to the signals of the analyzer.
If, nevertheless, you did not take care of training in advance and "set off on travel" on the indicated types of transport, then you will need several techniques that will help alleviate the state of the body during the motion sickness period .
- Before flying by plane or traveling by car, food must be taken 1.5-2 hours in advance before boarding
- In the midst of a trip, it is better not to get carried away with food.
- Soda and alcohol will only make matters worse.
- You need to stock up on acidified drinks without gas, candies (sour or salty taste is better), chewing gum with a mint or neutral taste
- Bring distracting and entertaining games, books, magazines, music, movies with you
- Always carry heavy paper bags with you in case of vomiting
- Try not to look at passing, flying, moving objects and landscapes by. Why? Described above!
Long sea trips, most likely, you will not endure painlessly, since during the voyage you will still have to eat and go out on deck (otherwise why would you go sailing then). In this case, it is recommended to take the drug Dramina - pills for motion sickness, which will block the signals of the vestibular apparatus to the nervous system, but this drug has its side effects, contraindications, and it is not as safe as it might seem at first glance. Especially for pregnant women, children and the elderly, as well as for people suffering from a number of diseases. Before using this drug, you need to consult a doctor.
For those who dream of traveling across the water, the best way out is to train the vestibular apparatus, and also start sailing trips not on cruise ships, but on boats, yachts with a gradual increase in the period of sailing on the ship.
