Prediabetes - what is it?
Long before diabetes begins to develop, changes occur in the human body, often not always clearly indicating the development of the disease. But these changes consist in the fact that the pancreas begins to produce insulin in smaller volumes and gradually an immunity to glucose develops in the tissues. This phenomenon is called "prediabetes".
Factors indicating impaired absorption of sugar by body tissues:
- development of obesity,
- development of hypertension,
- the presence of high triglyceride levels in the blood,
- chronically rash of boils,
- development of periodontal disease,
- gestational diabetes,
- sleep disturbances are possible,
- possible development of convulsive syndrome,
- possible skin manifestations in the form of itching, increased dryness of the skin.
Diagnostics for the presence of tissue tolerance to insulin is carried out in people over 45 years old, whose relatives suffer from diabetes mellitus.
Treatment for prediabetes requires lifestyle changes:
- Change in approaches to nutrition (switch to meat products, vegetables and fruits, seeds, nuts, eggs, green vegetables, but reduce the consumption of dairy products),
- Strengthening physical activity to speed up metabolic processes (create a load for yourself with an increase),
- Sometimes conservative treatment with medicinal sugar-reducing drugs (metformin and its derivatives).
Treating prediabetes is the first and important step towards preventing diabetes in the future.
