Hypovitaminosis.
Hypovitaminosis is a more frequent occurrence than vitamin deficiency. And unlike the latter, they cause reversible health disorders. The state of hypovitaminosis is typical for a situation when the body receives some provitamins and vitamins, but in an amount insufficient for its normal functioning.
The cause of hypovitaminosis may be:
- An unsuccessfully balanced diet, in which any product will be missed or limited in consumption, therefore, the provitamins or vitamins contained in this product will not enter the body in sufficient quantities. As a rule, many food products are a source of not one, but several vitamins, which means that the manifestations of hypovitaminosis will affect different systems and organs.
- A long-term morbid state of a person, when the body will throw all its strength into the struggle for its life, that is, it will spend more of the useful substances at its disposal, “mending holes” in health.
- Pregnancy, which assumes that some of the nutrients supplied with food will benefit the development of the fetus.
- Hard physical labor, sports and highly intellectual activity will lead to a significant increase in the body's need for vitamins.
- Acquired or congenital disorders of the digestive tract associated with the digestion and absorption of food components.
- Some drugs used along with food intake or vitamin complexes can become an obstacle to the absorption or production of vitamins in the body.
- Nervous shocks and prolonged stress can disrupt metabolic functions in various organs, lead to disruptions in biochemical processes.
Observing the symptoms of hypovitaminosis, one can draw a parallel between the painful manifestations and a specific vitamin:
- Excessively dry and scaly skin; diseases associated with increased keratinization of the skin; brittle nails and hair; blurred vision should suggest a lack of vitamin A.
- Flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, unpleasant cramps in the intestines, muscle spasms, disturbances in the activity of the nervous system - this is a lack of B vitamins .
- Rapidly decaying teeth, fragile bones , deformities of the skeleton (chest or bones of the lower extremities) - the intake of vitamin D is difficult .
- Frequent hemorrhages (in the vessels of the eyes, nose, limbs, etc.), swelling of the mucous membranes around the teeth and bleeding, a state of weakness, nervousness, low resistance to infections - lack of vitamin C.
- Anemia, poor appetite, a tendency to intestinal disorders - this is a lack of folic acid (B9).
- Fatigue, lethargy, bad mood, chronic uncontrollable nervous tension, drowsiness that do not have any specific reasons - this is a lack of a whole complex of vitamins.
It is easier to treat hypovitaminosis than vitamin deficiency, since it is enough to notice which of the vitamins, or which group of vitamins, the body does not receive, and regularly replenish their deficiency. A blood test for the level of this vitamin will help to identify exactly the missing vitamin. The best option is if a doctor prescribes vitamins for you, because there are times when for some diseases, no matter how you want, taking all vitamins or any particular vitamin is strictly prohibited.
Vitamins can be taken in the form of tablets, capsules, pills, injections; in the form of special food additives (for example, fish oil or brewer's yeast), in the form of whole complexes (for example, Duovit, Undevit, Alphabet), singly (for example, Folic acid, Pentavit, Retinol, Ascorbic acid), or paired with another vitamin (or a trace element) (for example, Askorutin, Aevit, Calcium-D3 Nycomed).
When carrying out vitamin therapy, the main thing is not to forget about the danger of hypervitaminosis, about the compatibility of vitamins with each other and with some medications. When taking vitamins, it is necessary to be guided by the daily dosage figures and take into account the fact that some portion of the vitamin (or its precursor) will enter the body with food.
A mistake can be a situation when you, already taking a multivitamin complex, suddenly decided that the intake of a particular vitamin should be increased. This cannot be done, since the daily dose of each vitamin is already included in the multivitamin complex, which means that you will allow an overdose of it. It is enough, after drinking a course of vitamins, to repeat the course of one specific vitamin in a few months. In this matter, you must be prudent!
