Antioxidants – what is it?
The human body exists in a continuous flow of chemical reactions, in which all substances that enter it interact in one way or another with each other.
At some period of time, some of the substances are in the form of ions and cations - positively and negatively charged residues (particles of substances). These particles are active and tend to attach other active particles to themselves, forming various combinations of substances that are not always useful.
The human body is healthy when the combinations of all substances within it are correct. But often as a result of harmful substances entering the body, the effect of radiation on substances already in the body, their released active particles - free radicals - ply through the body, which is always fraught with the birth of combinations of substances toxic to humans or the oxidation of already existing useful substances. The role of free radicals, as a rule, is played by reactive forms of nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and other elements.
Other substances - antioxidants - act as traps for free radicals. They are the same active particles that, getting into the body, are able to trap free radicals and neutralize them.
The role of antioxidants in maintaining nutrient balance is well understood. But it is unclear exactly how many antioxidants a person needs, and where to get them?
The most important antioxidants, vitamins A, E, C, are popular and often used as dietary supplements. But in a well-thought-out diet, the body has enough of those antioxidants that come from food. There is no need to take an excessive amount of vitamins or minerals, their excess is no less harmful to the body than an excess of free radicals. The most significant foods for the high content of antioxidants are vegetables, fruits and berries, cereals, legumes. If the body is properly fed, then there will be no significant harm from free radicals.
