Atherosclerosis of the vessels of the brain.
Atherosclerotic changes inside the blood vessels can affect not only the main highways, where the vessels are much wider in cross section, but also the periphery, where the vascular network is formed by sufficiently small vessels. So the brain is supplied with blood through vessels with a small section, and atherosclerotic changes in such vessels will be fatal.
Atherosclerosis of the cerebral vessels is a fairly common phenomenon when there is a tendency in the body to deposit atherosclerotic plaques. It is one of the five most common pathologies of the brain in the category of cardiovascular diseases.
Atherosclerosis of the vessels of the brain has several common causes:
- genetic predisposition to atherosclerotic deposits (accelerates the development of the disease),
- excessive passion for fatty foods, including fried foods,
- hypertonic disease,
- age-related changes,
- metabolic disorders.
Signs of atherosclerosis of the brain become clearly noticeable, since they certainly cause a violation of intracerebral circulation, which in turn affects the memorization process, on the sobriety of the mind, on the adequacy of human behavior. Mental activity decreases, the person begins to degrade.
To diagnose atherosclerosis of the brain, Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, angiography and MRI are used.
Treatment of atherosclerosis of the brain is impossible, but there are a number of principles of drug therapy and lifestyle changes, in which the process of deposition of atherosclerotic plaques slows down:
- Vasodilator drugs with the effect of improving blood microcirculation (nootropic drugs),
- Drugs that improve the rheological properties of blood,
- The diet should contain a minimum of fatty foods in any of its manifestations,
- An active lifestyle, hiking, exercise equipment is encouraged.
