Brain angiography.
Angiography of the vascular system is a magnetic resonance imaging study of the state of the vascular and lymphatic system: it allows you to search for places of pathological narrowing or expansion of vascular ducts, blocking of vascular lumens by blood clots or atherosclerotic plaques.
Angiography is based on magnetic resonance imaging, that is, the study is carried out with the participation of a magnetic field, and not with the participation of X-rays, which is safer for the health of the body and allows these studies to be carried out, if necessary, with any degree of frequency.
For the procedure, a contrast agent is injected into the vascular bed under the action of an anesthetic. Pictures of the head are taken in two projections.
With the help of brain angiography, it is possible to detect aneurysms, vascular thrombosis, prevent the development of strokes, identify vascular disorders that impair memory, causing pathological work of the organs of vision. Angiography of cerebral vessels can provide information about the causes of epileptic seizures, fainting, headaches. In traumatic brain injuries, angiography allows diagnosing injuries. Angiographic examination allows you to monitor the results of treatment.
There are a number of contraindications for brain angiography:
- Angiography is strictly contraindicated in the presence of implanted metal structures in the body or remnants of fragments from shells (including: clips, staples, artificial joints, heart defibrillators, implants and other hardware);
- Pregnancy is a contraindication;
- Inability to lie still due to uneven diseases;
- Fear of confined spaces,
- Severe renal and cardiac dysfunction.
