What is a blue nevus?
A blue nevus is a skin neoplasm with pigmentation ranging from gray or bluish to dark blue. A blue nevus is an accumulation of melanocyte cells located in the middle and deep layers of the skin, which determines its exotic coloration. In its shape, the blue nevus is diverse: it may be a convex formation or it may not rise above the surface of the skin.
The size of a blue nevus ranges from 0.5 to three centimeters. Particularly large nevi are often cause for concern and are mistaken for melanoma.
A blue nevus is a benign neoplasm, but with the most frequent statistics of malignancy (malignancy) and transformation into melanoma.
Usually, a blue nevus is not removed, unless it is located in areas of the body where it is constantly injured. A blue nevus does not cause any unpleasant sensations - it does not itch, does not get wet, does not hurt, does not increase in size. But when one or more of all these signs are observed, there is a possibility of its malignancy, which requires immediate treatment to a dermatologist and oncologist. If a blue nevus is suspected of malignancy, it is removed with the capture of the nearest tissues at a distance of up to one centimeter and in depth with the capture of subcutaneous tissue.
Blue nevi are found in people of all genders and all ages. According to statistics, most often the development of a blue nevus in the thickness of the skin is accompanied by hormonal disorders (adolescence or menopause) or is a hereditary feature.
