Red moles.
Red moles (angiomas) belong to the category of vascular tumors formed from overgrown and merged small blood vessels. Red moles have several different forms:
- They are flat and rise slightly above the surface of the skin;
- They are in the form of a knot (dots);
- They have a pineal shape, rising sharply above the surface of the skin;
- They are star-shaped with branches of several vessels.
Red moles most often appear in babies after a time after birth (hemangiomas) or after 20-30-40 years (senile angiomas).
A flat red mole can grow to the size of a palm and is called a “birthmark” in everyday life. Depending on what vessels the angioma is formed with, it differs in color. Red-pink moles are formed by capillaries, dark red ones are formed by arteries, purple-cyanotic ones are formed by small veins.
Red moles rarely transform into malignant neoplasms, but when injured, they can bleed significantly. Red moles are dangerous because they look like other malignant formations in the early stages of development - melanomas, for this reason, when red moles appear on the body, they should be monitored: do they grow, do they get wet, do they itch, do not whether they turn into a non-healing wound. If such signs appear in a red mole, you should immediately consult a dermatologist or oncologist.
During the period of hormonal disruptions, red moles tend to increase in number, especially after forty years.
Angioma should not be confused with angiokeratoma or with granulomatous tissue overgrowth - pyogenic granuloma (botryomycoma). Pyogenic granuloma looks like a red mole on a leg with an uneven lobular surface and can reach sizes up to 1 cm in diameter. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign neoplasm, but it can also resemble malignant neoplasms (melanoma, Kaposi sarcoma and others), which only a professional can differentiate, for this reason, formations similar to pyogenic granulomas should also be shown to a dermatologist.
Can red moles be removed?
Red moles must be removed if they appear in an infant (hemangiomas), since they tend to increase with the growth of the child to an impressive size and occupy large areas on the skin, which will spoil the aesthetic appearance of the skin. Too convex red moles, including pyogenic granulomas, if they interfere, are removed with a laser.
In the case when red moles do not cause any inconvenience, they are not touched, but they take care of the location of such moles: they do not injure, do not expose to direct sunlight, do not remove themselves, do not discolor, do not treat with extraneous chemicals or creams with active components.
