Diaskintest - what is it?
Tuberculosis is a social disease and dangerous for its chronic course and large-scale damage to the whole organism, not just the lungs. Therefore, it is extremely important to identify it in time and begin treatment. Annual Mantoux tests may not reflect the actual state of affairs, since a positive reaction will be observed in different categories of patients: in BCG vaccinated, in carriers of the bacteria and in patients with tuberculosis.
For the accuracy of detecting the disease and making the diagnosis, a method for determining the presence of tuberculosis in patients - diaskintest - was developed and tested.
Features of the diaskintest:
- Diaskintest is allowed from the age of eight.
- In case of individual intolerance to the drug, there is a contraindication to diaskintest. If there is a negative experience of a violent reaction to the Mantoux test (temperature, headache, deterioration in general health), diaskintest is not performed.
- Diaskintest is not carried out during the period of illness with pulmonary, bronchial or other infectious diseases. The test is also not indicated in the period after a severe and / or prolonged illness. But this does not apply to mild colds, after which Diaskintest can be carried out.
- The height of a chronic illness, current allergic reaction are contraindications for diaskintest.
- The result of diaskintest is negative if, 72 hours after the injection of the drug, only a puncture point, a colorless thickening of the skin or a bruise is observed at the injection site.
- The result of the diaskintest is considered positive if a papule or any seal with skin hyperemia (redness) has formed at the injection site.
- Repeated diaskintest is allowed two months later in case of a negative reaction and one month after vaccination.
The advantages of carrying out a diaskintest are that a fluorographic study may not reflect the true state of affairs, since tuberculosis has not only a pulmonary form. Diaskintest will reveal the latent form of the disease (latent) "tuberculosis", that is, tuberculosis bacteria are already present in the body, but no manifestations of the disease have been noticed.
Unlike the Mantoux test, where a natural antigen isolated from mycobacteria acts as an allergen, a synthetic analogue, an antigen, is used in Diaskintest.
Diaskintest is considered a more accurate indicator of the presence of any strains of tuberculosis bacteria in the body than the Mantoux test.
