Neurotoxicosis.

Neurotoxicosis or acute infectious toxicosis is an emergency that usually develops in young children with many viral infectious diseases at the very beginning of the development of the disease. But typical cases are the development of neurotoxicosis with influenza or other respiratory viral diseases. It is a viral infection that can cause this serious condition due to the poisoning of the child's body with toxins (poisons) of the virus.

Neurotoxicosis tendencies are directly related to diseases of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, or metabolic disorders.

The emergence of neurotoxicosis is seen in children born with health problems - with birth trauma, premature birth, with signs of exudative diathesis and many more diseases that may accompany neurotoxicosis. Children of the first 4 years of life, as a rule, are susceptible to acute infectious toxicosis.

The characteristic signs of neurotoxicosis are distinguished by the fact that they increase with a violent reaction, quickly, in a short period of time. At the very beginning, the child becomes nervous, capricious, restless, can move randomly or make involuntary movements of his arms and legs. The child's sleep pattern is disturbed and insomnia appears. It is accompanied by high temperature neurotoxicosis (102 – 104 degrees Fahrenheit or more), which also rapidly increases in a very short time period. The general condition worsens sharply, breathing becomes more frequent, shortness of breath appears.

A typical symptom of neurotoxicosis is a sharp turn from physical activity and anxiety to lethargy, drowsiness, and depressed consciousness. The child becomes indifferent to the people around him, toys, reacts poorly to external stimuli: sounds, movements, braking, change of light. With neurotoxicosis, the child may develop convulsions, the skin turns pale and becomes cold (especially the coldness of the extremities - arms and / or legs is felt), despite the very high temperature.

For successful medical care - emergency hospitalization of the child to the hospital will be necessary - it is important to notice this state of neurotoxicosis in the child in time, call an ambulance doctor first, and only then start measures to alleviate the child's painful condition.

Regardless of the fact that the child's limbs get colder against the background of a high temperature (this is a very typical sign of neurotoxicosis), it is not worth wrapping him up too much for warming, since this is just a spasm of the cardiovascular system, which did not work correctly against the background of viral intoxication. The fact is that many respiratory viruses are neurotropic - they move along nerve fibers and disrupt the work of nerve impulses, which turns into a malfunction in the reaction of the vascular system of the body to a high rise in temperature (the vessels do not expand, but narrow (spasm), and thereby disrupt the blood supply to peripheral parts of the body - extremities). It is enough just to cover it with a cozy, not heavy blanket, give a drink at room temperature (or slightly chilled), preferably sweet tea, and drink more often.

The baby's head can be slightly chilled! a cloth soaked in cold water, a towel, a handkerchief ( do not put an ice heating pad on your head).

To prevent neurotoxic conditions in children with health problems, it is necessary to protect such children during the seasonal peak of respiratory infections from those who contract the Flu or other types of respiratory viral infections.

Prevention of neurotoxicosis in children consists in carrying out measures to support and boost immunity, in observing the principles of hardening the body and training the defenses of the child's body - increasing the immune resistance of the child's body to various infections.
