Pangamic Acid (Vitamin B15).
The study of biologically active substances in the liver of animals (cattle), as well as parallel studies of biologically active substances in the composition of edible plants, made it possible to find a unique substance that was originally assigned to the B vitamins and was named Vitamin B15 or Pangamic acid. Further studies of Pangamic acid led scientists to the opinion that this substance is not a vitamin, but it has very diverse functions in the metabolic processes of the body, which translate Pangamic acid into the category of substances beneficial to health.
Initially Pangamic acid was found in the liver of a bovine, later it was found in the liver of horses and in bovine blood. Plant analogues of Pangamic acid were found in apricot kernels, isolated from rice seedlings and rice bran, and also found in brewer's yeast.
In its pure form, Pangamic acid is not used as a dietary supplement, but its derivative - Pangamat Calcium (calcium salt of pangamic acid) - is a fairly common means of complex therapy in the treatment of many diseases associated with oxygen metabolism in cells of various tissues. Thanks to Calcium ions, the pangamic acid salt is involved in metabolic processes in muscle tissue and tissues that form the vascular wall. In the complex, the Calcium salt of Pangam acid has a beneficial effect on redox processes that regulate the state of the vascular system, oxygen and lipid metabolism in liver and lung tissue.
The preventive value of the use of Pangamic acid in the composition of Pangamat Calcium is that it improves metabolic processes during oxygen starvation of tissues, which occurs in situations of impaired oxygen metabolism, for example, with altitude sickness, pulmonary emphysema, pneumosclerosis. In the everyday sense, the phenomenon of oxygen starvation is often accompanied by situations associated with climbing to a great height, with high physical exertion (sports or labor), when intensive muscle work occurs, blood circulation increases, but the oxygen consumption by the body exceeds its capabilities. In such cases, the Salt of Pangamic acid acts as a backup generator that enhances oxygen metabolism in tissues and prevents hypoxia (oxygen starvation).
Pangamic acid (Pangamat Calcium) is a common food supplement in situations associated with the treatment of diseases of the vascular system (coronary insufficiency, atherosclerosis).
Of practical importance is the use of Pangamic acid to improve lipid metabolic processes in liver tissues (prevents fatty liver tissue), in the skin (including sexually transmitted diseases). Pangamic acid does not interfere with the action of corticosteroids.
Discovered useful properties of Pangamic acid, allowing to reduce toxic effects in alcohol etching, liver intoxication in case of poisoning with various harmful substances.
Pangamic acid is useful for dizziness, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, muscle weakness, which usually accompany oxygen starvation of the body.
As a rule, Pangamic acid is administered as an adjunct to the treatment of diseases such as pneumonia, itchy dermatoses of various origins, obesity, cerebral vascular sclerosis and many other diseases.
In ordinary food products, the content of Pangamic acid is so scanty that it is used only in the composition of Pangamat Calcium for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes as prescribed by a doctor. Pangamat Calcium is not a means of daily use in nutrition (like some forms of vitamins), as it is taken in courses taking into account the specific existing disorders in the body.
