Is it useful to wear makeup?
The habit of wearing makeup has its roots in the distant past of mankind, when makeup played the role not of decoration, but of belonging to various ranks in a tribe or as a camouflage agent during inter-tribal wars. But civilization not only did not abandon makeup, but also turned makeup into a means of caring for one’s own appearance and a means of enhancing the effect of attractiveness.
The fashion for makeup keeps pace with the fashion for jewelry and clothing style. This is not to say that putting on makeup is fashionable, but we can say that makeup is an indicator of participation and care for one’s own appearance, and it is also an opportunity to conform to modern life.
Since chemicals (natural and synthetic origin) are used in makeup, the question naturally arises is it healthy to wear makeup?
Festive events or special occasions allow excessive use of makeup, but in everyday life moderate makeup is encouraged. It is moderation in the use of makeup products that presupposes their safe use. The cosmetics and perfume industry is trying to produce make-up products suitable for various skin types and suitable for various situations related to cosmetic defects of the body's skin. In this case, the safety (neutrality) of the chemical effect of makeup products on the skin is taken into account. But in cases where there are skin diseases, special requirements must be made for makeup - to correlate its chemical composition with the tolerance or intolerance of the individual components that make up the makeup product.
It is not recommended to apply makeup to areas of the body affected by skin diseases, to scratches, abrasions or wounds, even if they are unpleasant in appearance. There are medicinal camouflage cosmetics that allow you to temporarily cover areas of the skin that are not aesthetically pleasing.
Useful makeup is that makeup that corresponds to professional activity is selected according to the life situation and does not interfere with the natural functions of the skin. Even very safe makeup can turn into a factor of illness if its combination with weather conditions, nutrition, use of medications or simultaneous use with untested skin care products is not thought out.
The usefulness of putting on makeup in modern life is the need to look aesthetically pleasing, an opportunity to hide natural cosmetic defects of the skin. But in cases where the presence of a makeup product on the skin interferes with sweating, tanning, swimming, taking steam treatments, or performing medical procedures (therapeutic or preventive), makeup is an inappropriate means of caring for one’s appearance. In these cases, the beneficial properties of makeup become either useless or obviously harmful to health.
Choosing healthy makeup is always about balancing skin health and the need for correction. Those make-up products that are located closer to the means of prevention than to the means of decoration have an advantage.
