Cupping massage
Known for a long time, the means of “warming up” with medical cups can be used for massage. This type of massage is usually called Vacuum Therapy or Cupping Massage. Cupping massage is based on reflexology methods and belongs to physiotherapeutic procedures. Vacuum suction of the can creates the opportunity to pull the skin over the source of inflammation and create an additional flow of blood to the capillaries in this area. Also, in the area where the can sticks, skin receptors are irritated, which has a beneficial effect on the entire process of relieving inflammation.
There are a number of contraindications to massage with cupping:
- It is strictly forbidden to give massage to people with an autoimmune disease - hemorrhagic vasculitis.
- There should be no areas of skin disease in the area where the can is placed.
- There should be no moles, birthmarks, pigment spots or any other skin deformities in the places where the jar is installed.
- Do not perform cupping massage during periods of acute pain due to osteochondrosis or severe muscle pain.
Cupping massage is indicated for chronic pain, myalgia , prolonged neuritis, chronic bronchitis , and intestinal atony. Cupping massage can be preventive in nature or therapeutic in nature at the stage when the disease has passed the acute phase of its course.
The technique of performing cupping massage at home comes down to the following set of actions:
- The surface of the back is pre-lubricated with warm vegetable oil or Vaseline (a very thin layer).
- Long tweezers, a forceps or the top of a metal rod (you can use the handle of a fork or spoon) are wrapped in cotton wool and lightly moistened in a medical flammable substance, such as alcohol or ether, set fire to the cotton wool and inserted into the massage cupping quickly, the volume of the massage cupping is bypassed and removed, the massage cupping is quickly installed to the planned location. The massage is carried out by installing only one massage cupping.
- First, the massage with cupping is carried out on the side of the back where the pain is felt to a lesser extent, and then it goes directly to the source of the aching pain.
- The massage cupping is moved to a patch of skin next to the problem area.
- Next, trying not to tear the massage cupping off the surface of the skin, they begin to move it, first making a circle around the problem area, then move the massage cupping, crossing the area of influence.
- You can first move the massage cupping over adjacent areas of the skin, capturing areas of the long back muscles, intercostal spaces, move the massage cupping along the spine or in a herringbone pattern away from it.
- The cupping massage procedure is carried out for no more than 10 minutes (five to seven minutes is possible). The result of cupping massage should be persistent redness of the skin in areas exposed to vacuum.
After a cupping massage, bruises may appear on the skin; for this reason, the massage should not be prolonged, and people with thin and sensitive skin spend a minimum amount of time on it.
If there are concerns about the ability to use a flame to create a vacuum environment inside the massage cupping, then you can use a glass massage cupping with a rubber vacuum attachment for squeezing out air or a special rubber massage cupping, which is also adapted to create a vacuum environment.
