Musculoskeletal system >>>> Aching muscle pains are myalgia
Aching muscle pains are myalgia.
Very often, aching pain occurs in various muscle groups. Such pain can develop after overloading the muscular apparatus, hypothermia, or is a symptom of some diseases, it can go away on its own after a few hours (or days), or it can drag on indefinitely. But, regardless of the causes, muscle pains give a person many unpleasant moments. In medicine, muscle pain of any origin is called myalgia. It is necessary to distinguish myalgia from neuralgic pain, which is associated with damage to nerve fibers. Myalgia is limited to a group of muscles, while neuralgic pains tend to radiate to other areas of innervation.
The most common causes of myalgia are:
- Excessive muscle tension during exercise or exertion
- Crick
- Myopathies
- Myositis
- Rheumatism
- Endocrine Disorders
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Action of infection or toxin
- Vascular disorders
Since the causes of myalgia are diverse, the treatment is chosen depending on what is causing the myalgia. The simplest treatment is to treat muscle strain myalgia. In such cases, muscle pain either goes away on its own in a day or two (it is enough to remove the load for a while), or requires procedures of a warming nature (heating pad, warm baths, wraps, salt compresses), rubbing and massage.
Myalgias caused by muscle injuries such as sprains require analgesic and anti-inflammatory therapy, warming procedures, rest and a long period of recovery of muscle functions with the help of physiotherapy and exercise therapy.
Inflammatory processes in muscle tissue (myositis) require a more detailed study of the causes of myalgia and the appointment of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs. These muscle pains will not go away on their own.
The most difficult treatment is the treatment of myalgia associated with systemic disorders in the body (endocrine, vascular and others). As a rule, in these cases, myalgia is just one of the many symptoms of the disease, so treatment is aimed at eliminating the causes of the disease.
In order to make a decision: treat myalgia on your own or consult a doctor, you need to pay attention to the nature of the pain, the frequency of its occurrence and analyze the situations associated with the moment of occurrence of myalgia. Regular muscle pain not associated with physical exertion (brisk walking, running, lifting or carrying heavy objects), sports, require medical advice and professional treatment. By self-muffling or relieving pain, you can distort the true cause of myalgia and miss a serious illness.
