Gum recession (gum omission).
The mucous membrane lining the alveolar processes of the jaw adheres tightly to the teeth in the area of the necks, but sometimes, due to pathological processes occurring in the oral cavity, it exfoliates and falls below the neck of the tooth, exposing both the neck itself and the root of the tooth. Such omission of the gums is called gum recession in dentistry, and this process in the future can lead to periodontal damage and tooth loss.
The causes of gum recession are varied:
- Dental diseases (advanced necrotizing gingivitis, periodontitis, periodontitis, cervical caries);
- Vitamin C vitamin deficiency ,
- Mechanical injuries (as a result of improperly selected brush rigidity or too aggressive cleaning of teeth; improper use of dental floss; interdental spaces that allow food to clog and move the gum edge);
- Injuries sustained at the time of eating (a prick or cut with small bones of chicken, fish, etc., a tough crust of bread, a tough skin of fruits or vegetables);
- Injuries to the gums as a result of anomalies of the dentition (crowding of teeth, traumatic bite, bruxism);
- Injuries sustained while wearing removable dentures (including orthodontic ones) or during the period of prosthetics, associated with the planting of crowns on the teeth.
Treatment of gum recession.
Elimination of the defect resulting from the drooping of the gum edge is aimed at eliminating the problems that caused it. In the case of gum disease or periodontal disease, appropriate treatment is prescribed.
In case of chronic trauma to the gingival margin during the period of oral hygiene, change the toothbrush to a softer one and, taking into account the traumatic factors when cleaning teeth, clean the dentition with caution (less intensively).
In case of dentoalveolar anomalies, temporary aligners are used to change the height of the bite and orthodontic appliances to align the dentition.
With an insufficient intake of ascorbic acid in the body, the diet is revised in favor of foods rich in vitamin C, and vitamin supplements are taken to the main diet.
To relieve inflammation of the gingival margin, which contributes to the detachment of the gums in the area of the teeth, rinse the oral cavity with tinctures of medicinal plants (pharmacy or homemade).
In case of gum recession, which significantly exposed the tooth roots, surgical restoration of the gum is used by sewing on a mucous flap.
There is also a method of restoring the gingival margin by introducing a stimulant for the proliferation of periodontal tissue cells.
