Neurological diseases >>>> Carpal tunnel syndrome is the cause of wrist pain
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the cause of wrist pain.
Tunnel syndrome or tunnel neuropathy of the hand is a common cause of pain in the wrist or hand (right or left, depending on which one is working). In tunnel syndrome, compression (compression, pinching) of a peripheral nerve occurs in the wrist canal (a canal formed by bones, muscles, and tendons).
Compression of the nerve leads to the development of inflammation, swelling and even more compression due to the thickening of the tissues surrounding the nerve branch. The pain symptom with tunnel neuropathy can manifest itself both during the moments of hand movement and during rest. The pain does not allow you to strain the muscles of the hand, turn the hand in the right direction, bend at the wrist. In addition to pain in the hand, a feeling of numbness develops, tingling in the fingers. In fact, handwork becomes a painful problem. Tunnel syndrome most often develops in people whose professions are directly related to the tension of the hand and wrist: computer technicians, seamstresses, jewelers, drivers, secretaries - stenographers, musicians.
Carpal tunnel syndrome requires specific treatment, which uses medication, physical therapy, and exercise therapy. In the drug treatment of hand tunnel syndrome, anti-inflammatory drugs with an analgesic effect (ibuprofen, diclofenac, hydrocortisone), analgesics are used. To alleviate the condition, phonophoresis is used.
During the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, it is necessary to release the hand from the usual load. To redistribute the load, you can use tight bandages, orthoses for the hand, which will fix the wrist and hand. With intensive work with the injured hand, it is necessary to take frequent breaks and rest the working hand, perform exercises (various types of movements with the hand and fingers), forcing the muscles and tendons to work evenly.
If conservative treatment does not bring relief, then surgery is used to release the nerve from compression.
