Brain concussion.
Brain concussion (incorrect expression - " Brains concussion") is a form of brain damage. The frequency of such damage puts it in first place among all brain injuries. It is not difficult to get such an injury even in domestic conditions, not to mention man-made disasters, sports injuries, injuries sustained as a result of an attack, and many other options. Concussion can occur not only due to a shock, but also as a result of a sharp shaking. With a concussion, the connections between the neuronal cells of the brain are disrupted, which leads to a violation of their function and metabolism.
What symptoms should suggest a concussion?
- Nausea
- Vomiting (may occur once)
- Fainting (immediately after injury) or light-headedness
- convulsions
- dizziness
- severe weakness
- lack of coordination
- lethargy
- headache
- double vision
- pressure may increase (or decrease)
- heart rate increases (slows down)
- noise in ears
- insomnia (excessive agitation of the nervous system)
- incoherent speech
- memory loss (disorientation)
Since the above symptoms can be signs of other painful conditions, they should be considered in relation to a specific situation, presumably causing a concussion. This means that if you have, for example, nausea or dizziness, or an unexpected attack of vomiting, or a spontaneous headache, it does not mean that a concussion has occurred. But if, say, a week (a month or a day) before that you received a blow to the head, or when the vehicle in which you were moving sharply braked, you got a good shake, then there is a possibility that you are dealing with a concussion and must undergo diagnostics for identifying the causes of such symptoms and clarifying the diagnosis. It is imperative to mention when contacting a doctor about head injuries, even insignificant in your opinion,
Let's give an example of getting a concussion, which may make you think about some unpleasant symptoms that came out of nowhere. You are alone at home, hammering nails or cutting sausages in the kitchen, injured yourself, saw blood, or simply fainted from unbearable pain. When falling, they hit their head on the floor (a battery, cabinet, chair, edge of a sink or bathroom, and so on), but being unconscious, they did not notice the force of the impact. We woke up, rubbed the bruised place and continued to live peacefully on. And after a certain period of time, they began to notice the unpleasant symptoms described above. This is exactly the case when you need to assume a concussion (which you do not remember) and urgently see a doctor. By the way, that is why fainting is dangerous. that they can cause injury if the person is not restrained in time and placed in a position to prevent falling.
Diagnosis of concussion is carried out on the basis of the victim's subjective complaints, radiography, electroencephalography, computed tomography.
Treatment of concussion is usually carried out in a stationary setting, but in mild cases, treatment can be continued at home. The patient is prescribed rest and bed rest, nervous and physical activity is contraindicated. Drug therapy includes pain relievers, sedatives. They carry out therapeutic measures to restore functional disorders of the brain (vascular, nootropic), anti-sclerotic or anti-inflammatory therapy (if necessary). Observation by a neurologist is required for a certain period of time. If there are no accompanying complications, then the results of treatment are favorable.
But it may happen that a concussion will cause the development of other diseases: insomnia, asthenic syndrome, vegetative-vascular disorders, epileptic seizures. These consequences of brain injury require separate research and adequate treatment.
