Prevention of malaria.
When traveling to the countries of Southeast Asia, Central and South America and the African continent, it is mandatory to carry out malaria prophylaxis.
For the prevention of malaria, chemicals are used that have a detrimental effect on asexual erythrocytic forms of malaria plasmodia. For these purposes, the drugs Delagil, Meflokhin, Proguanil are used. Chemoprophylaxis of malaria is carried out during the entire period of stay in the area of endemic malaria during the season of its spread.
Malaria is a seasonal disease, tied to temperature and its duration (ambient temperatures above 15 degrees, kept for less than thirty days a year, are considered an obstacle to the spread of malaria), for this reason, one of the methods of prevention is the choice of the time of year to visit regions endemic malaria.
In addition to chemoprophylaxis, protective measures are used to prevent infection with malaria:
- body repellents,
- electric fumigators,
- protective nets and canopies treated with repellent.
A vaccine against malaria is under development, for this reason there is currently no possibility of vaccination against malaria.
