Telemedicine - what is it?
The World Health Organization supports the idea of creating a service sector in medicine (telemedicine), which can be implemented through the transmission of medical information using information technology and telecommunications.
What telemedicine can offer to the consumer:
- Real-time consultations;
- Delayed consultations;
- Distance medical education;
- Broadcast of medical conferences;
- Broadcast of surgical operations and other medical procedures;
- Remote transmission and processing of medical data collected, for example, at home using biosensors for temperature, blood pressure, ECG, etc.
The advantage of telemedicine is the ability to transmit information over long distances and across international borders. Telemedicine is of particular importance for communication with hard-to-reach areas, in the absence of qualified specialists in the required field in some regions, in conditions of home treatment, as well as for coordinating the actions of many specialists.
In addition, telemedicine makes it possible to take advanced training courses without interrupting work, to provide emergency assistance in the absence of a medical specialist next to the victim.
