Platysmoplasty - what is it?
Platysmoplasty is a cosmetic correction of the neck area. The name of the procedure comes from the word "platism" - the name of the subcutaneous muscle of the neck. It is this muscle that models the appearance of the cervical spine and chin. Platysma has a thin layer of adipose tissue, is poor in sebaceous glands, and has little elasticity. For this reason, the neck quickly loses its shape, wrinkles. It is impossible to pump up the platysma muscle, since it is so thin that in some people it is represented only by individual bundles of muscle tissue. With age and with excess weight, fatty tissue is deposited under the platysma, which forms the second chin (the muscle begins to sag under the weight of the fatty layer).
Cosmetic surgery - platysmoplasty involves detachment of the platysma, removal of the fat layer underneath (if it has formed), incision and lifting of the muscle up in the ear and temporal regions.
Neck tightening surgery (to tighten the platysma) lasts no more than two hours and has a short rehabilitation period (about two weeks). The effect of the operation lasts from five to ten years.
There are a number of contraindications for platysmoplasty:
- Infectious and inflammatory skin diseases,
- Metabolic disorders (diabetes),
- Chronic skin diseases in the acute stage,
- Autoimmune and systemic skin diseases,
- Tendency to keloid scarring of the skin.
