What is collapse?
Collapse is a pathological life-threatening condition of the body in which there is a sharp drop in blood pressure and outflow of blood from vital organs and tissues.
The danger is the outflow of blood from the vessels of the brain and a sharply reduced inflow of venous blood to the heart.
The reasons for the collapse are extensive. Any painful condition of the body, complicated by a drop in blood pressure, can lead to collapse.
The most common causes of collapse are:
- toxic infections,
- disorders of the heart and blood vessels,
- a sharp change in lying position to sitting or standing position,
- dehydration,
- external physical and chemical effects (electrical injury, blow to the head, blow to the chest, radiation, etc.),
- bleeding,
- allergies and food poisoning,
- acute conditions in diseases of the abdominal organs,
- medical manipulations (epidural anesthesia, puncture).
Collapse signs:
- general weakness,
- pallor of the skin,
- dizziness,
- drowsiness,
- loss of muscle tone (desire to sit down or lie down),
- trembling limbs,
- weak reaction to the light of the pupils,
- cold sweat,
- weak pulse,
- low blood pressure,
- loss of consciousness.
Collapse can be the threshold of falling into a coma.
Collapse requires first aid as it is an emergency.
First of all, we are talking about the urgent transportation of a person to a medical institution. In case of obvious bleeding, hemostatic procedures should be applied. The poisoning that caused the collapse is treated with gastric lavage and antidotes.
To remove from the state of collapse, the introduction of transfusion solutions or blood transfusion is necessary.
