Paleo diet - what is it?
At the dawn of civilization, man did not engage in agriculture and cattle breeding, but ate those wild plants that he could collect and those animals that he could catch. Such a diet did not contribute to the development of obesity, atherosclerosis, ischemic diseases of the heart and blood vessels, increased blood pressure, metabolic disorders and many other health deviations, which became an acquisition due to changes in cooking conditions, an abundance of sugars and salts in it, and synthetic additives.
Among people interested in the problems of longevity, a healthy lifestyle and selective nutrition, there were many who decided to remember the past merits of natural food and switch to the Paleolithic diet. So, dairy products were excluded from consumption (there was no cattle breeding), fried and canned foods, sugar and semi-finished products, refined and deodorized fats (there was no technology). Such selective diet gained the title - "Paleolithic diet" (or paleodieta).
There is a lot of controversy about the effectiveness of the paleo diet, because it does not promise a long life, and it excludes some useful substances found in dairy products and cereals, which accordingly impoverishes the diet of a modern person. And yet the scientists agreed in one opinion - undoubtedly, fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meat and the absence of a chemical component in food products are beneficial to health. For its merits, the Paleolithic diet received a paramedical name - the autoimmune protocol, it is this term that can be found among the recommendations for adhering to the Paleolithic diet.
The paleo diet helps to reduce cholesterol in the body (weight loss and prevention of vascular disorders), excludes harmful sugars (prevention and treatment of diabetes), creates conditions for the development of normal microflora (prevention of intestinal disorders and dysbiosis), preserves natural conditions for metabolism (prevention of metabolic disorders, allergies, skin and endocrine diseases).
What can you eat while following the Paleo Diet?
- Pork, beef, lamb and poultry (grown on natural feed), cooked over an open fire (fire, brazier), baked, stewed or steamed;
- Fish of different varieties, shrimp, crayfish, lobster, crabs, squid, mussels, oysters, etc .;
- Eggs, giblets, caviar, bacon and natural fats;
- Fruits, vegetables, berries, roots, herbs, nuts, sprouted cereals, seeds, mushrooms.
Of power at paleodiete fall healthy foods, such as porridge from cereals, pulses, corn, bakery products, milk, milk - sour products, cheeses, butter and vegetable oil, chocolate, cocoa, spices.
The downside to the Paleo diet is that it can exacerbate some chronic diseases:
- Allergy to nuts and protein;
- Urolithiasis (the result of consuming plants with puric acids in their composition);
- Inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (for such conditions, technological preparation of vegetables, fruits, cereals is necessary);
- Inflammatory kidney disease (in which protein foods are reduced in the diet).
As with any diet, the Paleo diet requires health awareness and an appropriate choice between food restrictions and health conditions.
