Urethritis: causes and treatment methods.
The inflammatory process that affects the walls of the urethra is called urethritis. The disease "urethritis" can develop in both men and women, although urethritis in men is more often in the nature of an independent disease, while in women inflammation of the urethra in most cases is associated with inflammation of the bladder due to the peculiarities of the anatomical structure.
Inflammation of the urethra has a different origin. Urethritis can be caused by:
- specific pathogenic microflora (mycobacterium tuberculosis, gonococcus, Trichomonas, mycoplasma, ureoplasma, chlamydia, gardnerella, herpes),
- conditionally pathogenic microflora (staphylococcus, streptococcus, Escherichia coli, fungi),
- mechanical injuries that cause inflammation of the urethra (during catheterization or other medical procedures, obtained during intercourse, when stones pass through the urethra with urolithiasis ),
- allergic reactions to drug therapy or food ingredients,
- metabolic disease,
- tumors,
- hypothermia.
Infectious urethritis develops when infectious agents enter from outside directly into the urethra, or enters the urethra during generalized infection with blood flow.
Signs of urethritis can develop in a short period of time, and then they talk about acute urethritis, or the symptoms increase gradually, are not pronounced as a result of the chronicity of the inflammatory process.
With an acutely current form of urethritis, cutting pains appear during urination , a burning sensation or itching occurs. Discharge from the urethra may occur, but not in all cases. The edges of the urethra are usually inflamed, edematous, and have a reddish tint. The inflammatory process can affect both part of the urethra and the urethra along its entire length, and then we are talking about total urethritis.
Treatment of urethritis is directly related to the causes of its occurrence. In the case of urethritis of an infectious origin, antibacterial or antiviral therapy is prescribed according to the identified pathogenic microorganisms. If the causes of urethritis are fungal in origin, then therapy includes antifungal drugs.
Depending on the severity of the inflammatory process, washing of the urethra with antiseptic solutions, the introduction of anti-inflammatory drugs, bacteriophages into the urethra can be prescribed . Urological antibiotics (Nolicin) have a good therapeutic effect in the presence of opportunistic microflora in the urethra. Along with antimicrobial drugs, immunostimulants and vitamins are prescribed to raise the general immune status. Additional therapeutic effect is provided by physiotherapy: hot baths (in the absence of purulent processes), UHF, diathermy.
In the treatment of urethritis, women can be prescribed a procedure for cauterization of the urethral mucosa, and in parallel, drugs are prescribed to restore the vaginal microflora to prevent subsequent relapses of the disease.
During the treatment of urethritis , sexual intercourse is contraindicated for both men and women, it is necessary to refrain from drinking alcohol, spices, spicy or sour foods.
