Healing recipes with Barberry.

The habitual ornamental plant Barberry as a medicinal plant is little known due to the fact that most of the substances used for medical purposes are concentrated not in the berries, but in the roots and leaves of the plant. The species of Barberry (Berberis Vulgaris, Berberis Amurensis and other varieties of plants of the Barberry family Berberidaceae) are of medical importance. The Barberry roots and Barberry leaves contain the alkaloids Berberine, Berbamine, Oxyacanthin and Leontidin, which have medicinal value - the pharmaceutical industry prepares medicines from them, the most famous of which is Berberine bisulfate, which has the properties to cause contraction of the smooth muscles of internal organs (the cardiac wall, the uterus, the vascular wall). It is this property that makes it possible to use the Barberry leaves and Barberry roots to reduce the uterus walls, the blood vessels wall during bleeding, and also slow down the work of the myocardium, which has smooth muscles in its structure.

In addition to the obvious effects on the intensity of bleeding and the functioning of some internal organs (for example, the effect on the smooth muscles of the bladder or the walls of the choleretic hepatic ducts and gallbladder, as well as the walls of the pancreatic ducts), preparations from the roots and leaves of Barberry have a direct effect on the digestive and cardio - vascular system: increase the separation of bile, lower blood pressure. According to these properties, preparations with Barberry are used to enhance digestive functions or to normalize the functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Barberry berries contain a high percentage of vitamin C and vitamin P. Depending on the color of the fruit (red-fruited or black-fruited), the content of vitamins varies - in black-fruited varieties, their number is twice as much as in red-fruited ones. In addition to vitamins, Barberry fruits have a high concentration of useful Malic acid and tannins, as in tea leaves. Barberry berries are suitable for making vitamin drinks and tea.

Healing recipes with Barberry are not difficult preparing at home. For their preparation the same recipes are used as in pharmaceutical production.

To use healing recipes with Barberry, it is necessary to properly collect raw materials for the preparation of infusions. Barberry leaves are harvested after flowering plants and dried in a shady place. Such leaves can be stored for three years in hermetically sealed containers. The roots of the Barberry plant are dug up in the fall, when the plant has finished fruiting. During this period, all the useful substances that the plant spent on fruit growth return to the root system and accumulate for the next fruiting season. To dig up the roots, lateral layers (stiff) are used, which the plant grows abundantly during the season, as this is one of the ways of its reproduction. The barberry tends to grow thickets, so there will be no shortage of roots, and the plant itself, after separating the lateral parts of the bush, will not suffer, but, on the contrary, will bear fruit with larger berries, like any fruit plant after thinning the thickets. The roots are finely cut and dried in the shade. Further, the well-dried roots are ground and stored for the preparation of infusions in dark glass containers.

Barberry berries are frost-resistant, for this reason they can be harvested until frost and beyond (the berries do not crumble from the bush for a very long period of time). Barberry berries for medicinal purposes are harvested by freezing or drying (like Rosehip berries).

Alcoholic infusion with Barberry.

Traditionally infusions from the Barberry roots and Barberry leaves are prepared in an alcoholic solution of 40% (in the proportion of one volume of raw materials to five volumes of an alcohol solution). The alcohol solution can be replaced with an alcoholic drink with a high alcohol content, such as Vodka, Cognac, Whiskey, Brandy. Raw materials (leaves or ground roots) are poured with an alcohol solution and kept for two weeks in a dark place at room temperature. The finished infusion is filtered and stored in an airtight dark glass container. Take an infusion of Barberry 15-20 drops three times a day or 30 drops twice a day during or after meals. The use of infusions from Barberry during pregnancy and diseases associated with low blood pressure or increased enzymatic activity is categorically contraindicated. Barberry tincture is useful for various bleeding, including bleeding that accompanies inflammation, but for bleeding that accompanies pregnancy, it can terminate the pregnancy by contracting the walls of the uterus. Also a Barberry tincture will help with chronic constipation as a laxative. Take Barberry tincture for no more than two to three weeks.

Morse with Barberry berries.

The Barberry fruits are thoroughly washed, rubbed (pressed) until the juice is released and poured with boiling water in the proportion of one volume of berries to two volumes of water. Insist until cool and drink like a drink. Crushed fruits can be filtered in advance, but when using unfiltered juice from Hawthorn fruits, more useful substances are released into the drink. Morse with Barberry berries is useful for vitamin deficiency, as an immunostimulant during the period of weakening of the body by diseases, as a means to increase appetite, as a laxative or choleretic agent.

Water infusion of Barberry berries and Barberry leaves.

An infusion of Barberry berries and Barberry leaves is prepared in the same way as fruit drink: the leaves and berries are washed and ground until the juice is released, then poured with boiling water in the proportion of one volume of raw materials to three volumes of water. The Barberry leaves and Barberry berries are infused for two hours and taken as a therapeutic and prophylactic agent for a weakened body, to relieve inflammation in the organs of the digestive system, to improve intestinal motility. Tea containing Barberry leaves is not consumed during pregnancy - during this period, you can only make tea from Barberry berries.

All Barberry infusions have a beautiful yellowish (red-fruited Barberry) or lilac tint (black-fruited Barberry) and a pleasant sour taste, which is very refreshing and tones the body during the period of prevention or the course of the disease.
