Why does headache when the weather is bad?
Bad weather is not a reason to ruin your plans and spoil your mood. But what if the bad weather is accompanied by a headache?
Headache is an insidious thing, it can hide behind the fatigue of the nervous system, overstrain of the muscles of the cervical region, mimic pain in the back of the head, give pain in the motor muscles of the eyes. But very often a headache accompanies a change in weather conditions or the temperature regime of the environment. Why does headache when the weather is bad, or is it a symptom of another health problem?
Most often a headache occurs as a result of a malfunction of the blood vessels that supply the brain with oxygen and nutrients. And blood vessels have the ability to sharply expand or narrow sharply, reacting to a number of irritating factors of an external or internal nature. It is these properties of blood vessels that are responsible for headaches associated with bad weather.
What are the most common causes of headaches during bad weather?
- The change in air temperature from a warm mode to a cold mode leads to a sharp spasm of blood vessels which causes a headache.
- Too much change in ambient temperature in the direction of increasing temperature causes a sharp expansion of the lumen of the vessels, and this also causes a headache attack.
- With climatic cyclones, no matter what kind of weather they bring, atmospheric pressure changes, which is quite capable of causing headache attacks.
- Gusts of wind often become a trigger for the development of a headache, as they cool the head to varying degrees and the muscles of the face and neck in particular, which in turn spasm and compress the nerve fibers penetrating the head area. In the head area there are quite powerful processes of the trigeminal nerve, which reacts very quickly to changes in temperature, drafts and gusts of wind.
- Bad weather, cloudy, rainy or blizzard, can cause a headache if a person is prone to depressive states from lack of sunlight.
- Bad weather often brings on a drowsy state, which many overcome thanks to the invigorating effect of coffee. But here bad weather indirectly affects the development of headaches too, since excessive coffee consumption on cloudy days leads to headaches that usually accompany caffeine overdose.
To learn how to overcome a bad weather headache, you must follow a few rules:
- Dress for the weather and wear hats according to the temperature regime.
- Protect yourself from drafts and wind while walking in bad weather.
- In bad weather with insufficient sunlight, create corners at home and at workplace - “solarium” with additional lighting with powerful lamps.
- Prefer healthy sleep to the coffee storm of the body.
Bad weather is a temporary event that can be used to relax in a cozy home, for creativity, for rethinking life, which usually leads to new perspectives, or as an excuse to take care of yourself and improve the quality of your health. With a headache in bad weather will help: massage, a pleasant shower, relaxation, self-hypnosis and a positive attitude.
