Signs of myocardial infarction.
Myocardial infarction is a pathological phenomenon in the physiology of the cardiovascular system, in which, for certain reasons, the blood flow through the coronary arteries, carrying oxygen and other necessary substances to the heart, is disrupted. In this case, the myocardium (heart muscle) is affected: its work is disrupted, areas of necrotic tissue appear, which, during healing, are replaced by connective tissue (not elastic), the contractile function of the myocardium decreases. For the death of myocardial cells, 20-40 minutes are enough from the moment of blood flow disturbance.
Although there are many situations of death of people in a few minutes with the development of myocardial infarction, in most cases, myocardial infarction can develop gradually, and a person does not attach importance to the body's dangerous signals about trouble with the heart muscle.
Signs - harbingers of myocardial infarction:
- Abdominal pain that resembles symptoms requiring surgery;
- Toothache or pain in the jaw, neck, shoulder, leg on the left side;
- A feeling of shortness of breath (similar to an asthma attack) and the person begins to choke;
- Dizziness, impaired speech, consciousness;
- Clammy sweat, hot flashes, or fever resembling those of a cold.
Signs of myocardial infarction:
- Severe chest pain, not relieved by nitroglycerin;
- The pain may radiate to the left side to the area of the scapula, neck, arms, legs;
- Violation of the rhythm of the heart (pulse rhythm);
- A pain symptom can occur at rest, without any apparent reason contributing to its development (physical activity, stress, nervous shock).
The presence of signs of myocardial infarction requires an immediate ambulance call. A person with signs of myocardial infarction should be at rest in a supine position.
